STUDENTS CORNER CLUB-TONGUE TWISTER COMPETITION

Students Corner club of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, conducted “Tongue twister” competition on 08.03.2021 in the communication lab. In this competition twenty students participated. Participants from various departments registered their names in the event Successfully.

The Convener of this event, Mrs.H.Geetha, Assistant professor ,Department of Tamil welcomed the Participants and explained the rules and regulations of the Tongue twister competition.

Mr.V.V.Sundaram Assistant professor, Department of English also represented the event and evaluated the  performance of the Students. Score sheet was also given to the evaluator and the convener who awarded the marks based on the pronunciation, perfection and presentation.

After successful completion of the event the convener and evaluator of the competition awarded  marks based on  their performances. Based on the marks obtained by the participants, the convener and evaluator selected the students for first, second and third places.

Finally the competition ended and the participants were appreciated for their wonderful performance. 20 students participated in the competition.

Guidance for Higher Studies

National Service Scheme of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted a guidance programme on Higher Studies for +1 and +2 students of Nadar Higher Secondary School, Madurai, on 13th February 2021. Various courses and its features had been highlighted among the students. The NSS Programme Officer addressed the questions raised by the students. 98 students were benefited.

32nd Road Safety Training Programme

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, NRP Safety Solutions & the Rotary Club of Madurai Central jointly organized a Road Safety Training programme at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science on 29.1.2021 for the benefit of teaching and non teaching staff and B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) students at SLCS, as part of the 32nd Road Safety Month.

Mr.P.NavaneethaKrishnan, Assistant Professor, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety welcomed the Guest Speaker, Mr.Vanthe Matharam Madhavan to conduct the Training programme. The Guest Speaker explained   Road Safety rules and regulations and shared video footages of various types of road accidents. He instructed Safe driving techniques for two wheelers and four wheelers. Mr.R.Prabhu, Director & Lead Safety Consultant, NRP Industrial Safety Equipments & Services and Rtn. Ashok (President – Rotary Club of Madurai Central) thanked the college management and appreciated Mr. Vanthe Matharam Madhavan for  his wonderful lecture about Road Safety. Mr. V.Dhamotharan, Assistant Professor, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety proposed the vote of thanks.

Celebration of Parakram Diwas in Shyamalavani

The 125th Birth Anniversary of the iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, known as the Parakram Diwas was celebrated on January 23,2021 through an oral address by Dr.S.Priya ,Dean Academics of SLCS to Shyamalavani 90.4 FM Community Radio.

The spirit of patriotic fervor along with hope, sacrifice, leadership and good charisma was highlighted from the life of Subhas Chandra Bose was stressed to be possessed by the youth of today. The speaker said that we should live a meaningful life and quoted the message from Chandra Boses book ‘Dreams of Youth’ that “We have come to this world, full of joy and with the fullness of our hearts, to establish a truth. And that is to discover the unknown and mystical purpose of life, through contemplation and a life of action, which only can make our otherwise senseless existence, meaningful.”

She also said that the youth of the village must act with fortitude in the face of adversity, build character, participate in healthy activity selflessly and must not be contemplated with any particular caste or religion. The speech ended with the salutation and slogan ‘Jai Hind’. Totally 2 faculty members participated and the Community people around 5 kms got benefitted from the program.

Disaster Emergency Response Training

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a Disaster Management Emergency Response Training for the Teaching and Non- teaching Staff members and B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) 72 members at Alagarkovil, Madurai on 23/01/2021. The principal, Dr.R.Sujatha welcomed the staff members. The Department HoD, Mr .I. Vivek Ramkumar inaugurated the training programme. Mr R.Brameshwaran, Assistant Professor gave an overview about Disaster Management and compered the program. Mr B.Satheeshprabhu, Mr P.Navaneethakrishnan, Mr V.Dhamotharan and Mr A.Jaiveer Kumar, Assistant Professors spoke about Life saving skills during Biological Disasters, Landslides, Forest fires and Floods. The II year Students demonstrated Emergency Carrying Techniques and the III year students demonstrated about the CPR Technique and First Aid for Fracture, Choking and Poisoning.

The HoD spoke about the importance of trekking and the Teaching and Non- teaching Staff members went for a trek in the Alagarkovil Hills.

The program was conducted to create awareness during Emergency situations  and  the  Preventive measures to be adopted during  Disasters .

Totally 72 Members [Teaching staff-46, Non Teaching staff-17, Students-9] Participated in this program.

Celebration of The Yuva Diwas in Shyamalavani

The National Youth Day or The Yuva Diwas was celebrated at Subblakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science on 12 January to commemorate the 158th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Dr.S.Priya, Dean Academics and Ms. Neela, an adhoc faculty of Hindi department addressed the community youth on behalf of SLCS through Shyamalavani 90.4 FM Community Radio. In their address the theme of the year “YUVAAH – Utsah Naye Bharat Ka” was instigated. Swami Vivekananda’s message, “Whatever you think, that you will be. If you think yourselves weak, weak you will be; if you think yourselves strong, strong you will be.” was asked to be felt by the youth of the community.

They also said that Swami Vivekananda believed in youth power and the youth must show their power and strength in bringing about awareness on protecting people and teaching them how to confront themselves from Covid-19 pandemic. Their actions must cross the religious, social and political barriers. Unity and innovation must be the aim of today’s youth and they must have in them a sense to Awake, Arise and stop not till their goal is reached. Totally 2 members participated. People in and around the community got benefitted through the program.

women Empowerment cell: Awareness Program on “Inhale The Future and Exhale The Past Through Yoga”

The women Empowerment cell of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy college of science Madurai, conducted an awareness program on the topic “Inhale the Future Exhale the past through Yoga” for the faculty members on 15.12.2020. The faculty members were motivated to undergo the session by performing Yoga on the spot. The event was started with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr.S.Gurupriya, Assistant professor of Commerce.

 The Presidential Address was given by the  Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal  Dr.S.Priya, Dean Academics felicitated. Mrs.N.Anuradha, Head Department of Computer Science,introduced the Chief guest. MR.Ramalingam, Founder of ‘Sivanandha Yoga Center ’ kariapatti,Virudhunagar District was the chief guest.During the event ,the Chief Guest shared his valuable thoughts regarding the benefits and the importance of acquiring the yoga technique. The faculty members were also taught many yogic postures and techniques that would help in regulating the body in a healthy condition and keep the minds calm  .The program ended with a vote of thanks proposed Mrs.R.Suganthi Hepzibha , Assistant Professor of English. Totally 25 teaching and non-teaching members attended the program.

FDP on E-Content & MOOC Development

The Department of Computer Science, Department of Networking and ICT Committee of SLCS together organized a one-day FDP on E-Content & MOOC Development for all staff members in F40 hall at SLCS on 15th December, 2020. Mr N. Ramkeerthi, Producer, EMRC, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was invited as the chief guest for the event.
Mr. M/ Athigopal, HoD, Department of Networking gave a warm welcome to the chief guest and everyone present there.
Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal, SLCS delivered the presidential address.
Mrs. N. Anuradha, HoD, Department of Computer Science introduced the chief guest.
Mr. M. Ramkeerthi, the chief guest, spoke about his attachment with the former Principal of SLCS, Dr. R. Ramamoorthi and started his session by explaining the teaching aids that a teacher employs to pass on knowledge to a larger group. He, then, explained various aspects of e-content, e-learning, different learning styles, incorporation of instructional designs, forms of e-content elements, components of e-content and voice cadence for educational communication. His speech was so enlightening and beneficial that everyone could create e- content and use them in an effective manner.
Finally, Dr. P. Joe Arun Raja, Assistant Professor, Department of Networking, proposed the vote of thanks.

The ICT Committee , in association with CDC (Curriculum Development Cell) and IQAC(Internal Quality Assurance Cell)  of SLCS organized a seminar on “E-Content Development & MOOC Development” for all staff members in F40 hall at SLCS on 15th December, 2020. Webinar on “Women Entrepreneurs: opportunities and Challenges”

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell and the Women empowerment cell jointly conducted a one day webinar with alacrity of Women Entrepreneurs opportunities and Challenges on 27.11.2020. The Chief Guest of the webinar Ms. M. Jeya, Deputy Director, (Survey & Statistics), District Industries Centre, Madurai The webinar aims at acquainting the student participants with the various issues being encountered by women entrepreneurs in India and the opportunities available for them. A total no of 66 students participated in this event.
