Celebration of The Yuva Diwas in Shyamalavani

The National Youth Day or The Yuva Diwas was celebrated at Subblakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science on 12 January to commemorate the 158th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Dr.S.Priya, Dean Academics and Ms. Neela, an adhoc faculty of Hindi department addressed the community youth on behalf of SLCS through Shyamalavani 90.4 FM Community Radio. In their address the theme of the year “YUVAAH – Utsah Naye Bharat Ka” was instigated. Swami Vivekananda’s message, “Whatever you think, that you will be. If you think yourselves weak, weak you will be; if you think yourselves strong, strong you will be.” was asked to be felt by the youth of the community.

They also said that Swami Vivekananda believed in youth power and the youth must show their power and strength in bringing about awareness on protecting people and teaching them how to confront themselves from Covid-19 pandemic. Their actions must cross the religious, social and political barriers. Unity and innovation must be the aim of today’s youth and they must have in them a sense to Awake, Arise and stop not till their goal is reached. Totally 2 members participated. People in and around the community got benefitted through the program.

women Empowerment cell: Awareness Program on “Inhale The Future and Exhale The Past Through Yoga”

The women Empowerment cell of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy college of science Madurai, conducted an awareness program on the topic “Inhale the Future Exhale the past through Yoga” for the faculty members on 15.12.2020. The faculty members were motivated to undergo the session by performing Yoga on the spot. The event was started with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr.S.Gurupriya, Assistant professor of Commerce.

 The Presidential Address was given by the  Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal  Dr.S.Priya, Dean Academics felicitated. Mrs.N.Anuradha, Head Department of Computer Science,introduced the Chief guest. MR.Ramalingam, Founder of ‘Sivanandha Yoga Center ’ kariapatti,Virudhunagar District was the chief guest.During the event ,the Chief Guest shared his valuable thoughts regarding the benefits and the importance of acquiring the yoga technique. The faculty members were also taught many yogic postures and techniques that would help in regulating the body in a healthy condition and keep the minds calm  .The program ended with a vote of thanks proposed Mrs.R.Suganthi Hepzibha , Assistant Professor of English. Totally 25 teaching and non-teaching members attended the program.

FDP on E-Content & MOOC Development

The Department of Computer Science, Department of Networking and ICT Committee of SLCS together organized a one-day FDP on E-Content & MOOC Development for all staff members in F40 hall at SLCS on 15th December, 2020. Mr N. Ramkeerthi, Producer, EMRC, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was invited as the chief guest for the event.
Mr. M/ Athigopal, HoD, Department of Networking gave a warm welcome to the chief guest and everyone present there.
Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal, SLCS delivered the presidential address.
Mrs. N. Anuradha, HoD, Department of Computer Science introduced the chief guest.
Mr. M. Ramkeerthi, the chief guest, spoke about his attachment with the former Principal of SLCS, Dr. R. Ramamoorthi and started his session by explaining the teaching aids that a teacher employs to pass on knowledge to a larger group. He, then, explained various aspects of e-content, e-learning, different learning styles, incorporation of instructional designs, forms of e-content elements, components of e-content and voice cadence for educational communication. His speech was so enlightening and beneficial that everyone could create e- content and use them in an effective manner.
Finally, Dr. P. Joe Arun Raja, Assistant Professor, Department of Networking, proposed the vote of thanks.

The ICT Committee , in association with CDC (Curriculum Development Cell) and IQAC(Internal Quality Assurance Cell)  of SLCS organized a seminar on “E-Content Development & MOOC Development” for all staff members in F40 hall at SLCS on 15th December, 2020. Webinar on “Women Entrepreneurs: opportunities and Challenges”

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell and the Women empowerment cell jointly conducted a one day webinar with alacrity of Women Entrepreneurs opportunities and Challenges on 27.11.2020. The Chief Guest of the webinar Ms. M. Jeya, Deputy Director, (Survey & Statistics), District Industries Centre, Madurai The webinar aims at acquainting the student participants with the various issues being encountered by women entrepreneurs in India and the opportunities available for them. A total no of 66 students participated in this event.

Webinar on “Building Next-Generation Entrepreneurs”

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted a one-day workshop on “Building Next-Generation Entrepreneurs” on 06.11.2020 from 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The webinar focused on the various loan schemes which are brought by the State Government to encourage young entrepreneurs and also on the list of other financial schemes available to promote start-ups. A total no of 82 students participated in the event. Mr.M.Ramalingam, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Madurai served as the guest speaker for the event.

FREE EYE SCREENING CAMP

The Department of Animation and the Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organized a “Free Eye Screening Camp” in association with Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai for the welfare of Teaching and Non Teaching Staff on 04.11.2020 (Wednesday). The Inaugural function started with a prayer song followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, SLCS. Dr.R.Lakshmipathy, President, SLF delivered the presidential address and the special address was given by Mr.Murugesan, Camp Organizer, Aravind Eye Hospital. Ms.Sailakshmi, Asst.Prof., proposed the vote of thanks and the function ended with the National Anthem.

This Free Eye Screening Camp was conducted to create awareness about the eye and to help everyone get a free eye checkup which they were unable to do so due to lack of time. Around 200 staff members from SLCS, RLIMS, RLINS & SLF, utilized this opportunity and got their eyes checked. Spectacles were ordered for those members with refractive errors. Staff members with serious ailments were advised to consult with Ophthalmologists at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. Mr.Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Department of Animation, Mr.Dhamodharan, Coordinator, YRC and Ms.Sailakshmi of Women Empowerment Cell and Healthcare Centre made all arrangements for the grand success of the event.

Awareness videos on COVID

National Service Scheme and Youth Red Cross of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science has created an awareness on the topic “Preventive measures against COVID 19” on 24-10-2020 by telecasting a video in the YouTube channel “SLCS Activities” shoot by the department of Visual Communication. The following 6 NSS Volunteers has created and delivered the script with the help of faculty members. They volunteers are

Readers Hub-Essay writing competition

The Readers Hub of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organized Essay writing competition on 15th, October 2020 through online. Twelve students  participated in this competition . Students from various departments registered their names and participated in the event successfully.

Conveners of this event, Mr.Senthil kumar and Ms.Sridevi, Assistant professor, Department of  English  represented the event and evaluated the essays of the Students. Score sheet was also given to the evaluators, the conveners and members.They awarded the marks based on the Content and presentation style.

After the successful completion of the event, the convener and the member of the competition awarded the  marks based on  their performance.

Finally the competition ended and the participants were appreciated for their wonderful involvement. 12 students participated in the competition and the names of the winners were declared. Students were motivated to take part in larger number in future.

Test Your Skills – Creative Arts & Literary Activity

Art and Media Club & SIP Cell of SLCS organized an Activity session on “Test Your Skills – Creative Arts & Literary Activities”.

Mr.P.Kishorekumar, Assistant Professor of Animation cum SIP Coordinator, conducted an activity oriented session on the topic “Test Your Skills – Creative Arts & Literary Activity” on 17.09.2020. The following were the activities posted during the session.

  • Drawing                              –        Topic         :  Current Affairs
  • Tamil Verse Writing        –        Topics       : நம்நாடு, தாய்மை, நட்பு
  • English Verse Writing     –        Topics       : Success, Failure, Beauty.
  • Art from Waste                 –        Topics       : Waste from home
  • Literary Activity                –        Platform  : Read Theory

The SIP Coordinator explained about the activity by creating an interest towards the students. The students showed their eagerness towards this session by their active participation. The students were again informed about this participative learning and experiential learning through these activities. They were also asked to post the articles in the given mail id. Totally 250 students Participated and got benefitted.
