Career Counselling session on “Occupational Prospects in Food Technology”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management and the Alumni Cell jointly organized a Career Counselling session on “Occupational Prospects in Food Technology” for the students of I & II year FSPM on 20.02.2023 at 9:00 a.m. in G12 hall of our college premises. Ms. R. Gunalini (Batch: 2019-22) acted as the speaker for the session.  The alumni briefed on the current trends in food processing industries. She discussed the overview of Food processing and career growth as Food Scientist, Technologist, Nutritional Therapist and Quality Assurance Manager. The alumni also interacted with the students and gave career guidance regarding higher studies and placements. Finally, valuable guidance is given personally to the students who interacted after the discussion.  Totally, 19 students participated in this interactive session.

Alumni Interaction session on “Sharing Guidance to Upcoming Professionals”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management and the Alumni Cell jointly organized an Alumni Interaction session on “Sharing Guidance to Upcoming  Professionals” for our I&II year students on 06.02.2023 at 10:00 a.m. in G13 hall of our college premises.SAbinaya and M. Poornima Devi (Batch: 2019-22) acted as the speakers for the session.  The speaker spoke on the positive impact of food and nutrition field and explained the variety of fields, careers in Food Science network. It inculcates vast knowledge and experience. Students can be benefited through the opportunities and experiences provided for building additional professional connections. Totally, 22 students participated in this interactive session.

 

 

Outreach Program (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on “Save Girl Child”

                     FAGAS Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management in order to commemorate National Girl Child Day” on 24th January 2023, organised an outreach program on the theme- “Save Girl Child”. Our students created awareness on the inequalities faced by girls in the country. This program is intended to promote awareness on the rights of girl children and the importance of female educationhealth, and nutrition. Totally, 9 students of I FSPM participated in this outreach program and 20 members from the public got benefited through this activity.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “Nila Cold Storage”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial Visit to Nila Cold Storage, Tuticorin, on 20.01.2023.  It was an informative and interesting visit and the students learned the storage temperature, conditions and the factors affecting cold storage conditions in Cereals, Pulses, vegetables, fruits and sea foods like squid, prawn, octopus and shrimp. The students learned the importance of cold storage. Mr. S. Finny, Manager, Nila Cold Storage, explained the history, industrial development and technological aspects and professional ethics involved in processing. In general, the visit helped us to gain some technical input to improve the shelf life by proper storage to avoid decay, contamination and spoilage.  The students of I& II FSPM (Totally 19 students) and one faculty got benefited through this visit.

 

Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Cleaning Activity on Sothuparai Dam”

FAGAS Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Cleaning Activity on Sothuparai Dam”  on 19th January, 2023 to educate and promote civic sense among the public of the Sothuparai Dam, situated at the foothills of Western Ghats, Periyakulam, Theni. Students went to all the areas and were briefed on the importance of maintaining cleanliness of the dam. The cleaning process continued in the Sothuparai Dam on 19.01.23.Throughout the cleaning campaign, the groups which were formed clicked various photos that included some before and after images of the cleaned area. The Clean and Green Campaign aims to protect and care for the environment by engaging the community in an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The students were encouraged and motivated for their hard work and dedication after which everyone spent some valuable time together. By 4.30PM, the team dispersed and gladly thanked each other.  In this outreach activity, 18 students and 1 faculty were involved in removing clutter, dust, crumbs, and other wastes such as papers, plastic cups, carry bags reserved in certain areas, which were collected and dumped in the dustbin by the students.

Career Counseling Session on “Inculcating Ethical Values in Students”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Career Counseling cell jointly organized a career counseling session on “Inculcating Ethical Values in Students” for II & III FSPM Students. Mr. C. Suresh Kumar, Head of the Department, MCHM, acted as the career counsellor. He enlightened the students on the foundations of a career practice, i.e., ethics and honesty. He exclaimed ‘Ethics’ as career practitioners, which is based on a competency model that defines professional behaviour, interpersonal competence, career development knowledge, and needs assessment and referral. He also encouraged the students by presenting a small gift to              Ms. M. Karthiga Devi, I FSPM, for her good observation of the session. Totally, 19 students participated in this session.

Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Siddha Diet and Nutrition for Healthy Life”

FAGAS Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through Siddha Diet and Nutrition for Healthy Life” on 09.01.2023. Students emphasized on the Siddhas healthy eating and the nutritional importance of a balanced diet.  They described the significance of balancing food ingredients (Thirithoda) such as, pepper, turmeric, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried ginger, cardamom, fenugreek and garlic. It maintains the homeostasis of the three humors namely, Vali, Azhal and Aiyam. Totally, 20 students actively participated and 20 members got benefited through this extension activity.

Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial Visit to Kavery Cold Storage, Paravai on 15.12.2022.  It was an informative and interesting visit and the students learned the storage temperature, conditions and the factors affecting cold storage conditions in Cereals, Pulses, vegetables and greens. The students learned the importance of cold storage. Mr. Jaya Kumar, Factory Manager, explained the history, industrial development and technological aspects and professional ethics involved in processing. In general, the visit helped us to gain some technical input to improve the shelf life by proper storage to avoid decay, contamination and spoilage.  The students of I, II and III FSPM (Totally 37 students) and two faculty members got benefited through this visit.

 

Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Importance of Health and Fitness for Adults”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Outreach Program SLCS Samaaj Seva on Importance of Health and Fitness for Adults “on 3.12.2022 at 3.00 in Paramakudi. Students explained the importance of Physical activity which improves one’s ability to live healthier and longer (especially during adult period). Regular physical activity can positively impact multiple dimensions of one’s life which can decrease the risk of developing chronic disease and improve health benefits of those living with a chronic disease.  Totally, 13 students participated and 10 members got benefited through this activity.

Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Emphasizing the Importance of Immunization”

To commemorate “World Immunization Day”, FAGAS Association of Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Outreach Program SLCS Samaaj Seva on Emphasizing the Importance of Immunization” on 30.11.2022 at 3.00 in Kariapatti. This day aims to spread the incredible health benefits of getting vaccinated and how it can prevent many diseases and disorders. Vaccination has become the need of the hour in today’s world. A breakthrough in helping to eradicate many illnesses, such as measles, mumps, rubella, polio, smallpox, and the latest pandemic, COVID-19 that has been infecting millions of people over the past few years. The importance of vaccination cannot be stressed enough, since age-old times. Our students created awareness on the power of immunization, as it is one of the best health measures that a human can take for his own good. Vaccines, not only control infectious diseases and major outbreaks but also it is a primary tool in providing anti-microbial resistance to all the people, especially lactating mothers. Totally, 13 students participated and 20 people got benefited through this activity.
