GUEST LECTURE ON CYBER SECURITY

The Departments of CS organized a guest lecture on Cyber Security on 19th, February 2021 for the students of I B.Sc CS (SSS) at the Seminar Hall. Mrs.N.Anuradha, HoD, Dept. of CS, introduced the Chief Guest Mr.Vivek, CEO, Ozone Cyber Security, Tiruchirappalli.

The Chief Guest delivered a keynote address on Cyber Security. He detailed the job opportunities available in cyber security in the IT industry and public sectors. He also encouraged the students to acquire CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) Certification, which according to him, will brighten the career prospects of the students. All together 52 students benefited through this guest lecture.

Chhatrapati Sivaji Birthday Celebration

Chhatrapati Sivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Kingdom’s birthday was celebrated on 19.02.2021 in the college premises by the Department of CS (SSS), SLCS. The celebration started with Mr.Roshan Britto of I B.Sc CS (SSS) welcoming the gathering followed by th Principal and the Dean-Academics delivering speeches to commemorate the life of Sivaji Maharaj.

The Department organized various competitions such as Elocution, Drawing for the students of I & II B.Sc CS (SSS). While the I year students attended the celebrations in person, the II year students participated in these competitions virtually. A quiz competition, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sivaji was conducted for the students of II B.Sc CS (SSS). Mr.Balamurugan of I B.Sc CS (SSS) delivered the vote of thanks. Around 94 students participated in the event.

PLACEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

On behalf of the Placement Cell, SLCS, a Placement Training Programme was organized on 12.02.2021, 13.02.2021, and 15.02.2021.The training was given in 4 sessions. The resource person Mr. P. Rengaraj shared his experience and explained various types of ships, ports and its services. Communication session was handled by Mr. Siva Kumar. He explained how to face interviews, general communication, error spotting, group discussion, and self-introduction. Geography session was handled by Mr. Meenakshi Sundaram, who explained about directions and shipping routes. As this session was conducted prior to the students attending the CMA CGM interview, it was very useful for them. Totally 20 students from the CS department attended the interview.

Webinar on Amazon Web Services

The Department of Computer Science, SLCS and Accent Techno Soft (ATS), Coimbatore jointly organized a Webinar on “Amazon Web Services” for the II B.Sc CS (SSS) students on 15.02.2021. Mr.K.Santhosh Kumar, Social Media Analyst, Accent Techno Soft (ATS), Coimbatore was the trainer. Students participated in the Webinar, which was conducted through Google Meet. The session started with an introduction to Cloud Computing, followed by its importance.

The key terminologies of Cloud Computing were explained by the trainer, after which, the students raised their queries and clarified their doubts. This webinar was useful for the students, who got to know the various services of Cloud Computing. Totally 40 Students (15 Students from Networking and 25 Students from Computer Science) participated in the Webinar, which was conducted through Google Meet.

DEPARTMENT ORIENTATION PROGRAM

On behalf of the Department of CS an Orientation programme for the students of I B.Sc CS (SSS) ‘A’ & ‘B’ sections was conducted on 15.02.2021 at 09.00 AM in the Seminar Hall. The department HoD, Mrs.N.Anuradha introduced the subjects that they are going to study in the II semester and also informed the students of the faculty in-charges for each subject.

Students from the III year interacted with the I year students and oriented them about the facilities and opportunities in the department. The TechnoFest Association Members elaborated on the Association and the roles & responsibilities of its members.

KRISHNAMAL RAMASUBBRAIYER SCHOOL (KRS) FACULTY ENRICHMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

The department of Computer Science conducted a Faculty Enrichment Training Program on “Computer Operations” for all the Teaching Staff  of KRISHNAMAL RAMASUBBRAIYER SCHOOL (KRS) from 10.02.2021 to 19.02.2021, for a period of 3 hours from 1.00 PM to 4.00 PM. A total of 40 members participated in this program. They were divided into two batches. The training was given from 10.02.2021 to 13.02.2021 for the first batch at Academic Lab-I and from 15.02.2021 to 19.02.2021 for the second batch at KRS IT Lab.

On 10.02.2021, the session started with a prayer. The welcome address was given by Mrs.N.Anuradha, Head of the Department, CS. The presidential address was delivered by Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, and SLCS. She emphasized the importance of  hands-on training in computer operations. The felicitation address was presented by Dr.S.Priya, Dean-Academics, SLCS, who motivated them to engage themselves as students and clarify their doubts during the training.

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM ON JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN MOBILE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

The Department of CS & Career Counselling cell jointly organized a Career Guidance program  on “Job Opportunities in Mobile Application Development” on 27.1.2021 for the III year students through Google Meet. Mrs.N.Anuradha, Head, Dept. of CS introduced the Chief Guest, Mr.Nagakumar, Managing Director of Devspark Solutions, Hyderabad. The Resource person of this session shared his industry experience and the current technical requirements needed for Mobile app Development in IT industry. He encouraged the students to develop skills in mobile application development and also he clarified all the queries raised by the students. This session was very useful for the students. Around 58 students were participated in this event.

Webinar on Cloud Computing

The Department of Computer Science organized a Webinar on “Cloud Computing” for the I B.Sc CS (SSS) students on 30.12.2020. Mr.Nandha Kumar, Cloud Computing Engineer, Web To All, Madurai was the trainer. Students participated in the Webinar which was conducted through Google Meet. The session started with the introduction of Cloud Computing and its Importance.

 The trainer explained Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the various Certifications available in Cloud Computing. Students raised their queries and clarified their doubts. This webinar enabled the students to understand the technical aspects of Cloud Computing in IT industry. Around 53 students participated in the webinar. Totally 53 students got benefited through this program.

Course Committee Meeting Minutes

The Department of Computer Science conducted a Course Committee Meeting on 17-12-2020 at 11.00 AM to get the feedback of the students regarding academics, before the conduction of the II and III year Semester Exams. In this meeting, wherein 15 students and 5 faculty members participated, the syllabus coverage of each course was discussed through Google meet and Google class room. The II and III year students informed that they were satisfied with the completion of the syllabus. Students gave valuable feedback and were assured that their inconveniences will be taken care of and academic standards maintained through Management decisions.

FDP on E-Content & MOOC Development

The Department of Computer Science, Department of Networking and ICT Committee of SLCS together organized a one-day FDP on E-Content & MOOC Development for all staff members in F40 hall at SLCS on 15th December, 2020. Mr N. Ramkeerthi, Producer, EMRC, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was invited as the chief guest for the event.
Mr. M/ Athigopal, HoD, Department of Networking gave a warm welcome to the chief guest and everyone present there.
Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal, SLCS delivered the presidential address.
Mrs. N. Anuradha, HoD, Department of Computer Science introduced the chief guest.
Mr. M. Ramkeerthi, the chief guest, spoke about his attachment with the former Principal of SLCS, Dr. R. Ramamoorthi and started his session by explaining the teaching aids that a teacher employs to pass on knowledge to a larger group. He, then, explained various aspects of e-content, e-learning, different learning styles, incorporation of instructional designs, forms of e-content elements, components of e-content and voice cadence for educational communication. His speech was so enlightening and beneficial that everyone could create e- content and use them in an effective manner.
