VALUE ADDED COURSE – MS-OFFICE

The Department of Commerce (B&I) conducted a value-added course on MS-OFFICE to the students of II B.Com-B&I for 6 days between 16.09.2024-19.09.2024 & 23.09.2024-24.09.2024. The expert covered topics related to MS Word, MS Excel, and Power Point Presentations theories and practices in MS-Office and made the session interactive and effective.

Outcome of the Program

  • The students gained skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office tools, enabling to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations effectively.
  • In Excel, students learnt how to analyze data, create charts, and utilize formulas, enhancing their ability to manage and interpret information.
  • Students developed the ability to create visually appealing and engaging presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Students were able to apply what they have learned to real-world scenarios, improving your overall workplace performance.

        SSI Education Institute from Madurai conducted the session in an effective manner for all the 47 students in II B.Com.(B&I). The students worked out more programs using MS Office, and they became proficient in using MS-Office as well. They were motivated and inspired to choose their career as using MS-Office.

SEMINAR ON PRACTICE OF GENERAL INSURANCE

The Department of B.Com- Banking and Insurance organized a Seminar on Practice of General Insurance on September 12, 2024 for II B.Com Students in the Room No.112. The Session began with a warm welcome from Mr.N. Arunkumar, who introduced the guest speaker and handed over the session. Mr. Chandra Mouli, Secretary, Insurance chapter, National Insurance Institute of India, Madurai and Mr.Srinivasan, Insurance chapter, Life Insurance Company , Madurai has been invited as the resource person. Mr. Chandra Mouli provided a detailed overview of general insurance, discussing various policies including motor, health, fire, and personal accident insurance. He engaged the students with insightful explanations on topics such as rising premiums, claim settlements, unpaid motor insurance claims, and the pooling system. Throughout the session, students actively interacted with the speaker, and their questions were addressed effectively, particularly on issues related to the motor insurance sector. Moreover, Mr. Srinivasan emphasized the importance of associate and fellowship examinations. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by A.Swathi, an II B.Com (B&I) student. Overall, the seminar was highly informative, and 43 students benefitted from the knowledge shared.

SEMINAR ON CAREER COUNSELING AWARENESS PROGRAM ON CAT AND MAT EXAM

The Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) organized a seminar on the Career Counseling awareness program on CAT & MAT Exam on August 24, 2024 for II and III B.Com. Banking and Insurance students in the seminar hall. Mr. Sabarivinayakam, Center Director, T.I.M.E. (Triumphant Institute of Management Education) Madurai has been invited as the resource person. He aimed at explaining the necessary details to equip the students with the required knowledge, skills, and confidence to successfully clear the CAT or MAT exam and make informed decisions about their careers in management.

Outcome of the Program

  • Provide detailed information about the structure, format, and pattern of CAT and MAT exams
  • Understanding Eligibility and Exam Requirements
  • Offer tips and strategies on how to prepare effectively for both exams
  • Educate students about the career opportunities and pathways that open up after taking the CAT or MAT exams, such as admissions to top B-schools, specializations in MBA, etc.
  • Discuss the career prospects in various fields of management, including finance, marketing, HR, operations, etc
  • Help students understand the placement records, infrastructure, and ranking of these institutes

 

 

 

Sensitization on Prevention of Sexual Harassment

The Internal Complaints Committee and the Department of B.Com (Banking and Insurance) organized a Sensitization Program on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment on August 1, 2024, for women students and staff in the Seminar Hall. The session began with a warm welcome by Mr. C. Suresh Kumar, Head of the Department of Marine and Catering Hotel Management, who introduced the guest speaker and handed over the session. Mrs. G. Kavitha, Advocate at the Madras High Court (Madurai Bench), was invited as the resource person. Mrs. G. Kavitha provided a detailed overview of sexual harassment in various environments, including workplaces and educational institutions, highlighting it as a pressing issue that affects the safety and well-being of individuals. She engaged the participants by educating women about their rights and the different forms of sexual harassment. Her session focused on the following key points:

  1. Equipping women with tools and strategies to recognize and avoid potentially harmful situations.
  2. Encouraging women to speak up against harassment and seek support.

The sensitization program proved to be a crucial step in promoting awareness and empowering women. By fostering a supportive environment and equipping women with knowledge and resources, the program aimed to reduce incidents of harassment and encourage a culture of respect. Sustained commitment from all stakeholders is essential to ensure ongoing progress in this area. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. V. Padmavathy, Head of the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance).

Outcome of the Programme

  • Gained a clearer understanding of what constitutes sexual harassment and the importance of consent.
  • Increased knowledge about legal protections and institutional policies was noted.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TOREGIONAL COFFEE RESEARCH STATION, KODAIKANAL TALUK

The Department of Commerce (Banking & Insurance) organized an industrial visit to the Regional Coffee Research Station, Thandigudi on September 21, 2023. Totally, 78 III B. Com. (B&I) students, along with two faculty members, Mrs. V. Padmavathy (HOD) and Mr. N. Arunkumar, visited the factory. The students were briefed on the evolution, founder of the company, management team, and functional departments. The students were able to witness the production process of coffee powder. Students interacted well with employees of Regional Coffee to clarify their doubts. Students maintained discipline during the industrial visit.

INTER COLLEGIATE MEET

                                   Virudhunagar Hindu Nadars Senthikumara Nadar College, Virudhunagar organized an Inter Collegiate Meet on 09.02.2024.Totally, 42 Students from I & II Year of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) participated in the Inter Collegiate Meet. Mrs. R.Nithya Kalyani, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) accompanied the students. Mr. Abishek and Mr. Angeswaran of II B.Com (B&I) received first prize in Quiz competition and Mr. Yuvasanth from II B.COM (B&I) got third prize in Photography competition. The participants received awards for the active participation in all the events.

INTER COLLEGIATE MEET

         Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College organized an Inter Collegiate Meet on 20.02.2024. Totally, 42 Students from I & II Year of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) participated in the Inter Collegiate Meet. Mrs. R.Nithya Kalyani, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) accompanied the students. Miss. Nandhini and Miss. Shivani of II B.COM (B&I) received the first Prize in Fireless Cooking competition and Miss. Keerthiga and Miss. Shoba from I B.COM (B&I) got first prize in Rangoli. The participants received awards for the active participation in all the events.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

An ALUMNI INTERACTION program was organized by the Department of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) on 23rd September 2023 in Hall No : 112, welcomed two alumni, Ms. Abinaya and Ms. Hema from the 2020-2023 batch, who are now working as Junior Associates at City Union Bank (CUB). The program aimed to help students understand the transition from college to the professional world, provide information about the Diploma in Banking and Finance (DBF) exam, and support the students in building their skills and confidence.
During the session, the alumni shared their real-life experiences and challenges after college, giving students valuable insights into the professional world. This interaction strengthened the connection between alumni and current students, creating an encouraging and supportive environment. The alumni also guided students on academics and co-curricular activities, helping them better understand how to prepare for their careers. The event was highly beneficial, leaving students inspired and more confident about their future.

FRESHER’S DAY

The Fresher’s Day Program was organized for I B.Com (B&I) students by the Department of Commerce (B&I) and CUENTAS Club on July 29, 2023. The program commenced with a prayer song. Ms. Vinodhini of III B.Com (B&I) welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. S. Priya Dean- Academics. Mrs. V. Padmavathy – Head of the Department, Mr. N. Arun Kumar, and Mrs. E. Hema conducted the ice-breaking session for the first-year students.

CUENTAS Club torch bearers were selected on Fresher’s Day which is mentioned below as follows:

  • Secretary: Nandha Kumar of I B.com (B&I)

The second and third-year students of B.Com (B&I) organized the program. The program ended with a vote of thanks.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Department of   B.Com (Banking & Insurance) participated in a faculty development program (FDP) organized by the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF) from 28th August 2023 to 31st August 2023. This online training program, titled “Trainers’ Training Programme for Diploma in Banking & Finance,” was designed for faculty members of colleges with an MoU with IIBF. The Head of the Department, Mrs. V. Padmavathy, along with Assistant Professors Dr. A. Devi, Mrs. R. Nithya Kalyani, Mr. N. Arun Kumar, and Mrs. E. Hema, attended the program.

The FDP provided an in-depth understanding of recent banking practices and developments in the financial sector. It included discussions on the Indian economy and the role of financial institutions, highlighting the significance of retail banking and wealth management in modern banking systems. Additionally, the program covered accounting and financial management practices adopted by bankers. The training enhanced the participants’ understanding of the banking industry and strengthened their ability to guide students pursuing the Diploma in Banking & Finance.
