Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Raising Awareness on Diabetes Management for All”

To commemorate “World Diabetes Day”, FAGAS Association of Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an (Outreach Program SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Raising Awareness on Diabetes Management for All” on 23.11.2022 at TVS Nagar & Anupannadi between 4.00-6.00 pm to raise awareness on diabetes as a global public health issue and what needs to be done, collectively and individually for better prevention, diagnosis and management of the condition on the theme ‘Access to Diabetes Education‘. Our Students realized that everyone must contribute and understand his/her social responsibilities towards society. Totally, 11 students participated and 20 members got benefited through this activity.

Field Visit to Thirumalai Naiyakkar Mahal

D. P. Roy Choudhury Association, Department of Animation, organized a Field Visit to Thirumalai Naiyakkar Mahal on 23.11.2022 for students of I B.Sc. Animation & P.G. Diploma in Animation Techniques.

The main objective of this trip is to understand the artistic blend of Dravidian and Islamic style of Art &Architecture. Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace is a place worth admiring and exploring. It was built in 1635, by the King Thirumalai Nayak who had the vision of creating a masterpiece for royal stay. It was designed as a residence for the king by an Italian architect. The interior of this palace mesmerizes everyone with its intricate paintings, design and sculptures. Paintings on the roof of the palace are worth noticing. Along with courtyard, the dancing hall of the palace is also worth exploring. This palace is one of the must visit places of history and those who love to explore architectural fineness of bygone eras. The sound and light shows conducted every evening at the palace, makes the visit to this palace even more exciting. Now under the protection of Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department, this palace was declared as a national monument immediately after independence.

Students visited the Exhibition of royal lifestyle of the Palace, organized by the Tamilnadu Archaeological Department. The students sketched the Palace from their perspective and made use of this trip as an outdoor study.

The Visit ended fruitfully and totally 36 students were benefitted through this visit.

Highlights of the Session:

The Resource Person Mr. R. Karthikeyan, CEO of Jeyaram Bakery, spoke to the students about the importance of hygiene in food units, the license required to start a food business, the availability of bank loans and how to approach the bank manager for a loan, the importance of food safety certificate, the employee’s provident fund, the ESIC facility for workers, the importance of hard work, and accepting and learning the latest technology in your industry. This seminar enhanced the development of the concept for sustaining the food business and made it a memorable experience.
Outcome(s) of the activity:

·         Students were able to plan a business, describe the competition, target customer and financial expectations for their business concept.

·         Student revealed the results of their business to the class, as ‘GO’ or ‘NO GO’ business idea.

1.          Students will have a business plan that can be used to create their own business.

MIC – MAC – MAN – Talk

Lakshaya Association, Department of MBA, organized a National Level Colloquium on the title “MIC – MAC – MAN – Talk” on 21st November 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the College Auditorium. The event was organized to enlighten the students with Micro, Macro and Managerial Economic concepts and its application in decision making.

The program commenced with Prayer. Dr. M. Subramanian, HOD – MBA welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Sujatha – Principal, inaugurated the program. Dr. K. Archunan – Vice Principal and Dr. S. Priya – Dean Academics felicitated the program.

In the first session, Dr. R. Sujatha – Principal – Subbalakshmi Lakshmipahty College of Science, Madurai, started the discussion on the theme “How do Savings and Investment Decisions Impact Personal Financial Goal?

Through the session, students were able to get an insight into various investment avenues and the application of Micro Economic concepts.

In the second session, Dr. S. Puspharaj, Associate Professor & Head – Department of Econometrics, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, discussed “How Prudent Business Decisions were Taken?”. The students were able to relate the application of Economic concepts in business decision making.

The third session was handled by Dr. Gaurav Shreekant, Assistant Professor in Amity Business School on the theme, “Is India ready for a Cashless Economy?”The students were able to understand the application of Macro Economic concepts in policy formulation.

The fourth session was handled by Dr. C. Muthuraja,  Associate Professor & Head (PG & Research), Department of Economics’ The American College, Madurai, on the theme ”How does climate change affect economic activity?” The students were able to understand the role and importance of the external environment, particularly the climate in bridging the gap between production and consumption.

Totally, 131 MBA students ( I Year – 70 , II Year – 61) participated in the program. Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep and Dr. R. Sivajothi were the coordinators.

HANDS-ON TRAINING ON MS-WORD

Department of Computer Science (SSS) organized a “Hands- on Training on MS-Word”, as a part of Extension Activity (SLCS – Samaaj Seva), on 21.11.2022 at 09:30 AM in Academic Lab I for the 8th standard students from T.P.K.P.U Middle School, Nedumadurai. Seven students from III B. Sc CS (SSS) gave training in MS-Word to the school students. They demonstrated on letter writing, table creation and various tools in Ms-Word. School students actively participated by asking doubts from our students. Overall, 29 students from T.P.K.P.U Middle School, Nedumadurai got benefitted by involving themselves in this activity.

Professional Development Program on 19.11.2022

Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) conducted a Professional Development Program on “Curriculum Designing based on IIBF Certification” to all the faculty members on 19.11.2022 in Board room. Ms. S. Vahitha, Assistant Director, IIBF Corporate office, Mumbai and Mr. Ravi Gupta, Corporate Development Officer, IIBF, Mumbai, detailed the certification provided by Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF) and its course content. They also explained how it can be integrated with the B.Com curriculum for the welfare of the students. The session was very useful and helped in modifying and updating the courses related to banking. Totally, 7 Faculty from Commerce Department participated in this program.

Outreach Program (SLCS- Samaaj Seva) on “Cleaning activity at Alagar Kovil” Madurai.

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an outreach Program (SLCS – Samaaj Seva) on “Cleaning Activity at Alagarkovil” – Madurai on 19.11.22. In this outreach activity, 4 faculty members and 66 students from MC&HM actively participated.  The objective of the program is to create awareness among the public about Plastic free environment in Alagar Kovil Hill station. They gave pamphlets to the people and instructed them to create Green Environment in their surroundings. As a part of the program, they made a walk to the Algar Kovil Hill surrounding area, collected plastic wastes on the road and properly disposed them in the bin. The students actively participated in the program by giving their full support and made the program a great success.

Symposium on Finnovate’22

Symposium on Finnovate’22 was organised by the “Lakshya” Association of MBA department on 18.11.2022 at 9 am in the Auditorium.  The key speakers are as follows:-

Ms Srividhya, Senior Advisor – ICICI Securities Chennai. She explained the fundamentals and scope of Stock Market in India.

Mr Kathirvel Srinivasan, Asst. Vice President, Tata Capital, Mumbai, highlighted the emerging trend of artificial intelligence in Digital Lending in Banks.

Mr Patrick Mathews, Regional Branch Manager, Kotak Mutual Funds, Madurai, gave an insight into the mutual funds and its various policies.

Totally, 99 MBA students participated and got benefited through this program.

Webinar on “Innovation in Food Regulation and Plant Management”

       A webinar on “Innovation in Food Regulation and Plant Management” was organized by the Department of Food Science and Processing Management on 18.11.22 at Seminar Hall. Dr. K. Singaravadivel, Independent director, Tamil Nadu Food Grains Marketing Yard, Madurai, acted as the resource person for the webinar. During this webinar, the resource person clearly explained the various innovative food regulations and the benefits to the consumers. Overall, the webinar was highly beneficial for the students, and they gained a good knowledge on the innovation of food regulations and it is related to the course “Food Regulation and Plant Management”. In Total, 35 students from I, II & III years actively participated in the webinar.

National Education day 2022

Department of Languages in association with SLCS- Institution’s Innovation Council organized Essay Competition and Poster Making Competition to commemorate “National Education Day 2022” with the theme “Changing Course, Transforming Education” on 17.11.2022 at 11 am in S62 of our college premises. The objective of this event is to make the students understand the importance of the Education at present for the betterment of their future and to celebrate Education as a wealth that cannot be ceased.  Totally, 25 students participated in Poster Making Competition and 11 students participated in Essay Competition. The event came to an end with blissful enlightment of the students on education.
