Field Trip-Keezhadi Museum, Sivaganga District

On 11.03.2023, Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management went on a field trip to the Keezhadi Museum, Sivaganga District with the I and II year students (57 students). The students became aware of the museum as a testimony to the regional life lived by ancient Tamils during the Sangam Age. The excavations underscored the fact that an urban civilization existed in Tamil Nadu since the Sangam Age, contemporaneous with the urban life recorded in the Gangetic Plains. The students visited six galleries titled ‘Maduraiyum Keezhadiyum’, ‘Agriculture and Water Management’, ‘Kalam Seikho’, ‘Aadayum Anikalankalum’, ‘Maritime Trade,” and ‘Vaazhviyal.” They explored the history and richness of the artifacts exhibited. The museum is equipped with a touch-screen display for the visitors to get a glimpse of artifacts regarding the Vaigai Valley Civilization. The museum also displayed a replica of a cargo ship recalling the ‘Sangam Era’ of maritime trade.  Earthenware and pottery were also exhibited in various dimensions. Adding to this, ancient coins that were unearthed were also displayed. The students enjoyed and understood the great pride in the ancient Tamil Civilization.

ALUMNI INTERACTION ON “WORK EXPERIENCES IN IT INDUSTRY”

Department of Computer Science (SSS) & Alumni Cell jointly organized an Alumni interaction Program on “Work Experiences in IT Industry” for I Year CS (SSS) students on 11.03.2023. Alumnus of 2019- 2022 batch shared their Industry Experiences, explained the importance of value added courses, workshops and guest lectures. They also explained the job opportunities in Cyber Security. They emphasized the students to practice lab exercises and the self-learning to upgrade technical skills. They briefed on the programming skills needed for getting placed in an IT industry.   Totally, 30 students from Computer Science got benefitted. The following alumnus interacted with I year CS (SSS) students.

EXPORT SUMMIT 2023 at Agro Food Trade Centre, Madurai

ZEAL Association, Department of BBA, participated in the ‘EXPORT SUMMIT 2023’ at Agro Food Trade Centre, Madurai, on 11.03.2023, as a part of MoU with Export Promotion Council. Our student learnt the bilateral trade between India and El Salvador, Peru, Canada and Indonesia. Mr. S. Rethinavelu, Chairman of Agro Food Trade Centre Export, informed the audience at the inauguration session that Export was a stable & sustainable business.   He said that the state government is planning to increase the export of processed fruits and vegetables. At present, only 2% of the fruits and vegetables are exported, which, if increased to 10%, would be a big revenue boost. Mr. Javier Manuel Paulinich, Ambassador for Peru to India informed that textiles and apparel are on top followed by food and beverages. Mr. Guillermo Rubio Funes, Ambassador of El Salvador to India, said that there are many opportunities for students to become entrepreneurs.  Panel discussions by various experts were held under various topics, which included the state government initiative to transform Madurai as an export hub, bilateral trade, etc. They said that in export the most important thing is product selection and problem identification.  In this seminar, students got more information and new ideas on the bilateral trade & export formats. Totally, 17 BBA students and two faculty members attended this program.

Industrial Visit to Atlas Exports Enterprises

On 10.03.2023, ZEAL Association, Department of BBA, organized an Industrial visit to Atlas Exports Enterprises, Textile Park, Karur.  This company exports textile materials to around 50 different countries. The purpose of this visit is to learn the process of production and logistics in textile industry. They have sophisticated automated machines with the state of the art technology for production process. They have waving & cut to pack system, helped by a dedicated team of 1700 employees engaged in different shifts. Our students learnt the process of weaving, sewing, quilting and stitching and also stacking of materials in warehouses.  They got aware of the equipments and machineries used in the above process. Totally, 33 students from I BBA were benefited by this factory visit.

Awareness campaign on being Happy observing World Happiness Day

ZEAL Association, Department of BBA, organized an awareness campaign to promote happiness among the public observing ‘World Happiness Day’ on 10th March, 2023 at Karur. Students of I BBA promoted the various ways to be happy among the devotees at Pasupatheeswarar Temple, Karur. The students also carried banners containing slogans for being happy. They also explained that one can be happy forever by helping others. Totally, 33 students from I BBA eagerly participated in the program.

Career counseling on “Hospitality Job Opportunities in the Overseas and Cruise Line Shipping Industry”

The HEN Association of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an alumni interaction for the second year (for 17 students) on March 9, 2023. Mr.R. Rajkumar, sous-chef, ABM Grande Hotels & Resorts, Theni (Batch 1995–1997), and Mr.S. Nagarajan, head chef, Bermuda Pie Restaurant, Bermuda Batch (1998–2001), alumnae of the department explained the opportunities available in aboard and shipping. They created awareness among the students about “Hospitality Job Opportunities in the Overseas and Cruise Line Shipping Industry “. They spoke of how a career in shipping and overseas is perfect for individuals who are fascinated by the sea and foreign lands, love traveling, and want to experience different cultures. They also said that the growth of the hospitality industry after COVID-19 would increase demand for skilled professionals. After completing your degree, you can join the government, private shipping companies, or various countries hospitality industries. The shipping and hotel industries are two of the best sectors to build your career in. Marine catering students can also join the merchant navy as general stewards, and in a land-based hotel, you can as a beginner. This program boosted the confidence of the students.

Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) organized an industrial visit to Naga Foods Private Limited, Pudhupatti, Dindigul, on 08.03.2023. The students were briefed on the establishment, Founder of the company, Management team, Functional departments and their innovative and distinctive products. Students participated in quiz program conducted by the company representative and won prizes. The students were able to witness the production process of Savorit vermicelli, Macaroni and pasta directly. Students interacted well with employees of Naga Foods private Limited to clarify their doubts. Students maintained discipline during industrial visit. Totally, 81 I B. Com (B&I) students along with 2 faculty members Mrs. V. Padmavathy and Mr. N. Arunkumar visited the factory and got benefitted.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “Sri Raamji Polypack”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial Visit to “Sri Raamji Polypack” on 06.03.23.It was an informative and interesting visit where the students learnt the importance of various innovative processing and packaging techniques. They understood the types of packaging system follow-ups like integrated tool-set for design, implementation, installation, maintenance and modification of the automation architecture, according to requirements. Mr. S Harikaran, CEO, Sri Raamji Paper Bags, Sivakasi, explained the history, industrial development & technological aspects and professional ethics involved in food packaging. Totally, 21 students of FSPM actively participated in this industrial visit.

Professional Development Program on “Techniques and Guidelines in Designing Various Packaging Materials”

A professional development program on ““Techniques and Guidelines in Designing Various Packaging Materials” was conducted by the Department of Food Science and Processing Management on March 6, 2023 at “Shri Raamji Polypacks and Paper bags, Sivakasi. Mr. Sivalingam, Proprietor, briefed on the manufacturing practices and regulations of the industry.  Mr. Hariharan, CEO, acted as the resource person and explained the process and techniques, involved in designing various packaging materials, chemical substances, equipments, regulations and laws pertaining to it, as well as the operations of machinery using appropriate examples. The program came to an end after gaining hands-on-experience. Totally, 4 faculty members were benefited through this program.
