SLCS – Samaaj seva – EXTENSION ACTIVITY – AWARENESS ABOUT E-SEWA KENDRA

The Department of CS (SSS), as a part of its Extension Activity recorded and aired a programme on “Awareness about E-Sewa Kendra” through SLCS’s Community Radio Shyamalavani on 28.09.2021 at 01.00 PM. Four students from II B.Sc CS (SSS) performed a skit “Awareness about E-Sewa Kendra”, about the awareness of E-Sewa Kendra. This play disseminated the importance of E-Sewa Kendra to the rural people. Students explained various facilities available in the E-Sewa Kendra.

Hospitality Career opportunities in Middle East country

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Alumni Interaction for the first year (40 students) on 28.9.2021. Naganarayanan.R, an alumnus of the department, presently working as   Chef de partie, four seasons Hotel and Resorts, Burj Alshaya, Kuwait, was the resource person. He created awareness among the students about the “Hospitality Career opportunities in Middle East Country”. He spoke to the first year students about selection process, Migration Process, Documents required for travel and Work culture in Middle East County. He also explained the job responsibility of an individual. This programme boosted the confidence of the students.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Awareness Programme on “Consumption of low cost nutritious foods”

FAGAS an Association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity at NeduMadurai through “Awareness Programme on Consumption of low cost nutritious foods” on 28.09.2021.  The students of III BSc FSPM conducted a survey among the rural people an d concluded that there is a minimum intake of millets and pulses in their daily dietary pattern. Ms.R. Gunalini student of III BSc FSPM enumerated the overall benefits of using millets and pulses in day today life. Finally to create awareness we provided Green gram incorporated ragi laddu to all the participants. Totally 14 students participated in this extension activity.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Extension Activity : World Tourism Day Rally

The World Tourism day is celebrated on 27th September every year by the United Nations World Tourism Organization located in Madrid, the Capital of Spain. The travel establishments such as travel agencies, airlines offices, tour operators etc. and hospitality establishments such as Hotels, Restaurants etc and educational institutions   also celebrate on the occasion of world tourism day..

The Department Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a tourism awareness rally involving the students from second and third year MC&HM.  They ran across Nedu Madurai Village accompanied by the community children, who took part in an enthusiastic way and shouted the slogans along with the Group. The students carried posters and banners with slogans and created awareness about the significance of tourism.

World Tourism Day Seminar

The department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management students have participated in World Tourism Day Seminar. It was held on 27.09.2021 on the occasion of world tourism day. The Seminar was organized by Travel Club, Madurai and Fortune Pandiyan Hotel, Madurai. 10 students from final year MC&HM actively participated in this Seminar. The chief guests from various Hotel and Travel Industry have effectively delivered their speech on the current scenario in Travel and Tourism Industry and the effect of Hotel and Tourism Industry after Covid-19 Pandemic. This Seminar motivated and encouraged the students, who had a memorable experience.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

In association with alumni cell, a prominent Alumnus of Computer Science Department, Mr.M.Vijaya Kumar (Batch: 2007 – 2010), Team Leader, TCS, Chennai, interacted with the I year CS (SSS) students on 27.09.2021. He shared his industry experience with the students. He insisted the students on developing the communication skills such as Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. He also encouraged the students to work continuously to improve their technical skills. Totally 35 students participated in this alumni interaction session.

Faculty Industry visit

Faculty Industry Visit was organized by RLIMS (MBA Program) at Aurolabs, Madurai on 25th September 2021. Faculty members from various programs participated in the industrial visit, faculty members from MBA, BBA and B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) participated in the industrial visit. The institute management has provided the transport facility for the faculty members to commute to the Industry Visit. The faculty team was welcomed by Mr Siddique Jailani, Senior Business Development Executive, Aurolabs and he made a presentation about the company to all the faculty members with a high-tea.The purpose of the visit to understand the functioning of an industry with international standards and to learn contemporary corporate / industry practices. After the introductory company presentation, the faculty members were taken for industry visit tour and the company executives explained the production process in detail with all Covid-19 safety protocols. After the visit, the team had a working lunch and resumed back for a healthy interaction and Q & A session with the Aurolabs executives. All the faculty members expressed their fullest satisfaction about the industrial visit and was suggesting for such a kind experience yearly twice or thrice to all the faculty members.

Student Participation – Millet Food Competition

The students of Marine Catering and Hotel Management participated in millet Food Competition on the occasion of world tourism day conducted by Virudhunagar Government Museum and Bell Institute of Hotel Management, Sivakasi, on 25.9.2021 at Virudhunagar. Thirteen students from the second and third year actively participated in the millet Food Competition and prepared various millet food dishes. Our student, Mr. K.Jagadesh from final year won the first prize in the Millet food competition.  This competition motivated and encouraged the students and also made it a memorable experience.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

In association with alumni cell, Alumna of Networking Department, Mr. K.Karthikeyan (Batch: 2017 – 2020), Software Engineer TCS, Chennai, interacted with  our III year Networking students on 24.09.2021. He shared his industry experience with the students and discussed recent topics of 5G networks, Internet of Things and  IoT Security. He also shared the working experience on Cisco Packet Tracer, Boson, NetSim and GNS3, which is used in Network Processing and its application. He insisted the students to learn domain related courses and their application which will be useful for their employability.  Totally 24 students participated in this program.

Alumni Interaction on General Steward Duties and Responsibilities of Merchant Ship

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Alumni Interaction for the second year (30 students) on 24.9.2021. Mr. Akash Solomon J and Kesava Moorthi M, an alumni of the department are presently working as Chief Cook, Fleet Management, Mumbai. They created awareness among the students about the “General Steward Duties and Responsibilities of Merchant Ship”. They spoke to the juniors about the duties and responsibilities of a General Steward and the Documents required for joining the Shipping Company. They also explained the job responsibility of our individual in this industry. This programme boosted the confidence of the students.
