The Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) organized an extension activity (SLCS-Samaj-Seva), “Awareness on Utilization of SHGs fund to Self Help Group Women” at Solankuruni on 6th February 2025. The awareness program took place at Solankuruni, where Mrs. V. Padmavathy, Head and Assistant Professor of the Department of Commerce, led the session. Mrs. Padmavathy provided an in-depth explanation of the different types of funds available to SHGs, such as internal savings, external loans, and government grants. She also emphasized the importance of utilizing these funds responsibly to create sustainable economic opportunities for the women and their families. Additionally, the students of the department worked to raise awareness about the legal, ethical, and responsible utilization of SHG funds. They shared practical advice and real-life examples of successful SHG fund management to inspire and guide the participants..Totally, 5 students of I &II B.Com (B & I) involved in this program under the guidance of the Head of the Department and nearly 40 women got benefitted by this program.
Outcome of the Program
- The “Awareness on Utilization of SHGs Funds for Self Help Group Women” program successfully achieved its objectives of educating and empowering SHG women.
- The initiative not only helped the participants understand the importance of responsible fund management but also instilled a sense of ownership and accountability within the SHGs.
- With the guidance of Mrs. V. Padmavathy and the active participation of the B.Com (B&I) students, the event fostered a learning environment that will have a long-lasting impact on the financial independence and empowerment of women in the Solankuruni area.
- Moving forward, it is recommended that similar sessions be organized periodically, focusing on more advanced topics in financial management, to continue the support for SHG women in their economic empowerment journey.
