OUT DOOR CATERING (ODC) at Madurai Drive Inn Restaurant

Madurai Drive Inn Restaurant has given an opportunity for our students to do outdoor catering (ODC). The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has sent 20 students from second and third year for ODC programme from 9.9.21 to 12.9.21. It was a great platform for the students to gain knowledge about theme decoration, buffet arrangement, table setting and different cuisine food preparation techniques. This opportunity motivated and gave hands-on practice to the students.

PARENTS- TEACHERS MEETING

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a Parents- Teachers Meeting for second and third years on 11.9.2021 at 9.00 A.M.  The meeting was organized under the guidance of Mr.C.Suresh Kumar, Head and Mr. K.Perumal Kannan, PTA coordinator. The main objective of the meeting was to create a common platform where teachers and parents come together to discuss student’s performance and devise ways to enrich their learning experience. We took this on a digital platform through Google meet due to pandemic.

Around 77 parents participated in the first PTA meeting of odd semester 2021-22. Parents were encouraged to appreciate student’s participation in all academic activities performance in the examination and student’s attendance.

The PTA meeting came to an end with the conclusion that the progress and development of the students depend on the joint effort of parents and teachers.

Class PTA (Parents Teacher Association) Meeting – I report

The Department of Computer Science(SSS) conducted Class PTA(Parents Teachers Association) Meeting I for the students of II & III B.Sc CS(SSS) on 08/09/21 & 09/09/21 respectively. The parents were explained about their wards attendance and I internal mark details. The progress report of each student was prepared by the class in-charges. Mrs.N.Anuradha, Mrs.J.Varalakshmi and Mrs.V.Gayathri prepared the progress reports of II B.Sc CS(SSS) – A , II B.Sc CS(SSS) – B and III B.Sc CS(SSS) respectively. The progress report was projected to all the parents. Due to pandemic, the classes are conducted through blended mode. Parents were asked to advise their wards to follow the safety measures at college bus and inside the campus. Parents of III B.Sc CS(SSS) asked about the details about internship training. They were informed about the efforts to be taken by their wards for getting  placed.

PARENTS TEACHERS MEET- ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Online Parents Teachers Meeting for the II& III year Students on 09.09.2021 through google meet (https://meet.google.com/lookup/cm2zvugowj?authuser=1&hs=179). The main objective of this meeting is to create a common platform, where Teachers and Parents join together to discuss student’s performance in CIA-I and devise ways to enrich their learning experience. Usually this happens by meeting each other in our premises. This time it was arranged on a digital platform like Google Meet. Around 26 parents participated in the 1st Parent Teachers Meeting of this academic year. Parents became aware of the institute’s rules and regulations, methodologies of teaching & learning for the overall welfare of the students. Parents were encouraged to appreciate student’s participation in all the academic activities. The students are advised to use an N-list for the assignment preparation and also suggested to read a lot of English news paper to improve their vocabulary. Most of the parents questioned about the placement opportunities and internship in the next semester and also they requested us to make some necessary arrangements for the same The Parent- Teachers Meeting came to an end with the conclusion that the progress and development of the students depend on the joint efforts of parents and teachers.

SLCS Samaaj seva – WORLD LITERACY DAY

International Literacy Day 2021: September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO in 1966 to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies. The Department of Languages in association with IQAC and Shyamalavani Community Radio had done an extension activity by broadcasting an awareness program for International Literacy Day 2021. Totally 4 students Ms.Devadharshini and Ms.Saraswathy of III B.Sc Computer Science and Ms.I.Swetha and Ms.C.Hemalatha of III B.Sc Animation explored how literacy can contribute in building a solid foundation for a human-centered recovery, with a special focus on the interplay of literacy and digital skills required by non-literate youth and adults. The students also remind the international community about the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.

The program was broadcast to the nearby community to motivate the Technology-enabled literacy learning. By doing so, ILD2021 will be an opportunity to re-imagine future literacy teaching and learning, within and beyond the context of the pandemic.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

In association with alumni cell, a prominent Alumna of Computer Science Department, Ms.K.Karthiyayini (Batch: 2018 – 2021), Executive, CMA CGM Pvt Ltd, Chennai, interacted with the III year CS (SSS) students on 08.09.2021. She shared her interview experience in CMA CGM Logistics Company. She insisted the students on concentrating more on Project development. She encouraged the students to learn aptitude for clearing interview and complete a few certification courses during the college days. She also advised the students to attend interviews in all the companies without skipping the opportunities. Entirely the programme was an eye opening session for the students.

NUTRITION WEEK CELEBRATION (01.09.2021-07.09.2021)

To commemorate “National nutrition week celebration, FAGAS association from  the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Health and Nutrition Club jointly celebrated a nutrition week   on the theme of “Feeding Smart Right from Start” for our students of II &III Year from 1.9.21 to 7.9.21 through Google meet (https://meet.google.com/lookup/bffkmrhly2) at 9.30 am in F26 classroom. The program was inaugurated by the guest speaker Ms.Shivpoornima. Various competitions like Drawing, Quiz, Doodle art, and Vegetable carving were conducted for our department students to showcase their talents. Mrs. Gunasundari, librarian of our College, delivered a valedictory speech about the importance of nutrition for all. Totally 27 students participated in the entire program and got benefited from this program. The feedback of the program was collected and over all analysis showed that the students were highly satisfied.

Peer Teaching on Google colab

Peer Teaching facilitates the students to share their knowledge with their peer mates. Mr.S.R.Aathithyan (Roll No : 20240) & Mr.M.Sakthivel(Roll No : 20225) from II B.Sc CS (SSS) shared their knowledge about “Google colab” on 06/09/2021 from 01.05 pm to 01.30pm. Google Colab is nothing but a web IDE. It allows us to write and execute arbitrary python code through the browser, and it is suitable to machine learning, data analysis and education. It is an excellent tool to implement all kinds of machine learning and deep learning algorithms.

They handled the session for the course Python Programming Lab (Course Code : 20CS306P). The students explained how to do python programming by using colab with some demonstration.  The Integrated Development Environment (IDE) which is used for editing, compiling and executing the python code was explained by them in colab. They also elucidated that google colab provides an environment with Graphics Processing Unit(GPU) to execute all complex machine learning algorithms. The face detection algorithm in Machine learning was demonstrated by them. Totally 47 students from II B.Sc CS(SSS) got benefitted from this peer teaching session.

After the peer teaching session, all the students were instructed to write a python program to find out the factorial value of given number by using google colab environment.

TEACHERS’ DAY

The Department of Mathematics of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized the teachers’ day celebration in a grand manner on 05.09.2021 in the college.On this special day, cooking competition was conducted with the support of the HoD, faculty and Students of  the Department of MCHM in the training kitchen of the college. Special menus were prepared by the staff members with zest and they really enjoyed the whole day.  The best contestants were selected based on the display of the food items, taste, variety and innovation.

As a part of the teachers’ day celebration, athletics events were conducted which includes javelin throw , Discuss throw and Shot put for both Male and Female faculty Members. The Faculty members were selected based on the best performance.

As a token of love and appreciation, Teachers’ day gift was given to both Teaching and Non teaching staff members by the College Management.

Student Participation – Virtual Cooking Session

Mr.K.Jagadesh, final year student of Marine Catering and Hotel Management, participated in a world record virtual cooking session. It was organized by Vasavi Clubs International District and Karur  Vysya Bank Limited, in  association with Vysya Sangamam,Tamilnadu. The Virtual Cooking Session was conducted on 5.9.20201. He got the Participant Certificate and the achievement was registered in Elite World Record, Asian Records Academy, Indian Records Academy and Tamilan Book of Records.
