International Webinar on “Card Payment Industry Overview”

International Webinar on “Card Payment Industry Overview” focusing the areas of Fintech and Banking was organised by the “Lakshya”, Department Association of MBA Programme in Association with Career Counselling Cell on 27th January 2022 at 6.30 pm through Google Meet. (Link: meet.google.com/dkb-dree-xuf).

The resources person for the webinar was Ms Kimberly Nichols, Senior Director – Product Development, InComm Payments, USA. The webinar was organised to facilitate the learning and understanding the various aspects of Digital Payments especially the usage of Plastic Money. Sixty Four MBA students were benefited out of this webinar.

73rd REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

Adhering to the restrictive norms that curtailed celebrations, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science had a meaningful semi-sesquicentennial Republic Day ceremony on 26.01.2022 without much ado but with the sincerest devotion to the nation. The celebration began with the euphonious rendition of the prayer song. The department of Languages in association with the Physical Education department made the arrangements for the 73rd Republic Day celebrations. The Principal of SLCS Dr.R.Sujatha, hoisted the National flag and delivered the Republic Day Address. Followed by her, the Vice Principal Dr.K.Archunan, shared the Republic Day wishes to the Faculty and Staff Members.  The celebration was concluded with the National Anthem. Totally 37 (21 Faculty, 1 from COE, 8 non-teaching staff and 7 students) members attended the Republic celebration.

AWARENESS ABOUT CYBER SECURITY

The Department of Computer Science (SSS), as a part of their SLCS – Samaaj Seva (Extension Activity) organized a program “Basic Awareness about Cyber Security” on 26.01.2022 at Nedumadurai. Five students from I & II B.Sc CS (SSS) participated and created awareness about the importance of cyber security in this digital era. They interacted with the public and explained how to use ATM, importance of pin number and also elaborated the available facilities in E-Seva Kendra for the farmers. Finally, they explained the effect and impact of smart phone in the present scenario. Mrs.S.Nirmala Devi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of CS (SSS) accompanied the students.  Overall 15 people from Nedumadurai village got benefitted by involving themselves in this activity.

Extension Activity – Awareness program on Banking Scheme

The Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) organized an extension activity (SLCS-Samaj-Seva), “Awareness Program on Banking Schemes” on 26th January, 2022  at Nedumadurai . The students of the department created awareness on various banking schemes and the Current scenario, Functions and Roll of banking .Totally 10 students of II B.Com (B & I) were involved in this program under the guidance of the Head of the Department and nearly 20 people got benefitted by this program.

Extension activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Guidance on common health and hygiene practices during pandemic”

FAGAS an Association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Guidance on common health and hygiene practices during pandemic on 26.01.2022 at different places.  I Year FSPM gave a brief note on common health and hygienic practices among the people in the age group of 15-30 years. To create awareness the student provides one pamphlet to all the people. Totally 4 students actively participated and got benefited from this activity.

 

NATIONAL VOTER’S DAY

The Electoral literacy club of SLCS commemorated the national voter’s day on 25.01.2022 by taking the pledge as follows.

“We, the citizens of India having, abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any other inducement”.

Totally 15 faculty members participated.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA ON ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety & Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an extension activity on “ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS” at Paraipathi Tollgate & Valayankulam Tollgate on 25/01/2022.    Our Department faculty members Mr. A.Jaiveer Kumar & Mr. R. Brameshwaran along with III year students Mr. S.Kaviraj & Mr.P.Sabarinathan have conducted the activity. Totally 2 faculty members and 2 students participated in the event. They created awareness on Road Safety among the Auto mobile drivers and also insisted the people to wear Mask and Helmet while driving. This initiative created the awareness among the people to wear seatbelts and also to ensure safe road crossing by insisting the pedestrians to follow rules. During this activity students guided the civilians on importance of following the traffic signal. The focus was also given about the risk factors of drunken driving.

People who travel in unprofessional way were requested to use road safety measures and follow the traffic rules by giving them the Pamphlets indicating the Road safety rules.

The aim of this campaign is to emphasize and highlight about the need of Road Safety and to motivate citizens about the traffic rules. The Authorities and Staff members in Tollgate render their Cooperation & the involvement of the faculty and the students were commendable to reach out the maximum number of population in the society and by creating awareness.

Extension Activity- “Share the Meal” – Donated Food and Grocery to the Old age Home

On 25th  January, National Tourism Day was observed by the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management and organized SLCS-Samaaj Seva- an extension activity “Share the Meal” at Kaakkum Karangal for the care of Old age group, needy and poor people which is situated in Thirunagar, Madurai.

7 faculty members with 12 students visited the Old age home and served various meals to the senior citizens who are living there. Besides, the monthly groceries worth of Rs.7000 like Toor Dhal, Moong dhal, lentils,  Masoori, Urad dhal, Rice, Sugar, Tea packets, Papad, Dry lentil, Cooking oil, ground nut oil, Gingely oil, Garlic, Rawa, Atta, Millets etc,, were also provided to the them.

Faculty members and students actively involved in serving and feeding the people. A lot of humanity and humbleness was seen among the students involved in this noble cause. Students also interacted with the inmates there and were exposed to the various challenges of life. This activity gave lot of satisfaction to the faculty members and students in extending their services and made them realize the blessings of the elderly people.
