Extension activity on “Smoking Cessation”

ZEAL, BBA Association of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai in association with the NSS Unit of the college & Shyamalavani Community Radio station organized an extension activity on “Smoking Cessation” on 18.08.2021. Dr.Ramesh Dtcd , MD – chest diseases & Associate professor , Department of respiratory medicine, Velammal Medical College was the resource person. The adverse effects of smoking were explained in detail. Some strategies to quit smoking were also suggested. The neighboring community and families residing at Nedumadurai, Eliyarpatty and Valayankulam villages got benefited through this extension activity.

National Leader Sri Auro bindo Ghosh Birthday Celebration

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized and celebrated the birthday of one of the greatest national leaders, Sri.Aurobindo Ghosh on 16.8.21.    Mr. V.Gangadharan, Asst. Professor, gave the welcome speech. Mr.C.Sureshkumar, Head of the Department addressed the students and spoke about the great political leaders who ruled the country effectively and also protected our nation. The Department students gave a video presentation about the leader and they said that Sri.AurobindoGhosh was an Indian Philosopher, Yogi, Maharishi, Poet, and Indian Nationalist. He was also a journalist and edited newspapers like Bande Mataram. He joined the Indian national movement for independence from the British colonial rule and then became a spiritual reformer, introducing his vision on human progress and spiritual evolution. Mr. R.Ganesh, Asst.Professor delivered the Vote of Thanks.

75th INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Adhering to the restrictive norms that curtailed celebrations, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science had a meaningful semi-sesquicentennial Independence Day ceremony without much ado but with the sincerest devotion to the nation. The celebration began with the euphonious rendition of the prayer song. The department of Languages in association with the Physical Education department made the arrangements for the 75th Independence Day celebrations. The Principal of SLCS Dr.R.Sujatha, hoisted the National flag and delivered the special speech. The Principal, in her thought-provoking address titled “UNITY IS STRENGTH”. Followed by her, the Vice Principal Dr.K.Archunan, gave speech on reiterating the UNITY.  The celebration was concluded with the National Anthem. Totally 68 faculty members attended the celebration.

Webinar on “International Youth Day”

A Webinar on “International Youth Day” was conducted by the Department of Languages in association with the NSS & IQAC on Aug 12th, 2021 through Google Meet. Mr.J.V.C. Sreeram, Founder and CEO- AURA Leadership Foundation has been invited as the Chief Guest to address the session. Dr.P.Shanmugapriya, Assistant Professor of English, delivered the Welcome Address and shared the importance of conducting the webinar. Followed by her, Mr.P.Dhamotharan, Assistant Professor of Commerce cum NSS PO introduced the Resource person, Mr.J.V.C. Sreeram, Founder and CEO of AURA Leadership and briefed his journey in establishing the foundation. The resource person addressed the gathering by delivering an inspirational speech on “Youth Empowerment”. He shared his experience on his book “No Reference Point” and further he added his views on Youth’s participation in the current scenario. The students were motivated when the resource person emphasized on the proverb “Failure is the stepping stone of success” and he gave instances from Olympics held in Tokyo as many Indian youngster brought laurels to our country who are the evidences of Empowered Youngsters. The session was ended with Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms.R.Sailakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil. Totally 90 students attended the session and a Feedback link was sent to the students to receive their response.

Kalam’s World Records – Indian National Flag Created with Natural Colors

Mr.K.Jagadesh, final year student of Marine Catering and Hotel Management, created a Kalam’s world record for having made an Indian National Flag using steamed food (PUTTU) on 12.08.2021, under the guidance of Mr.C.Sureshkumar, HoD and Mr.E.Jacob Jeba Raj, Assistant Professor. He has created a new world record for making the Indian National Flag by using steamed food (puttu) with Natural colors. He used carrot paste for saffron color, spinach paste for green color and steamed food (Puttu) for White color and Jamun fruit for Asoka chakra to commemorate the 75th Independence Day. The flag size is 6 feet x 10 feet. The achievement is registered in Kalam’s World Record 2021

BREAST FEEDING WEEK CELEBRATION

FAGAS Association from the  Department of Food Science and Processing Management and Health & Nutrition Club jointly organized a Breast Feeding Week Celebration on the theme “Protect breastfeeding: a shared responsibility“. Based on this, two competitions were conducted for the students of SLCS on 07.08.2021.

Online quiz Contest was held on the “Importance and benefits of Breast Feeding” through Google meet(https://forms.gle/6Snus5ZpggD8N89e7)& Drawing competition was also held on the theme entitled “Joy of Breast Feeding” through Google meet (https://forms.gle/1ZHjPNLTrxgfQkmM9). The main motto of these activities focus on how breastfeeding contributes to the survival, health and wellbeing of all.  Totally 26 students (22 student from FSPM & 4 from Health and Nutrition Club )participated in this program and got benefited.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

A prominent Alumna of Computer Science Department, Ms.M.S.Ragem (Batch: 2018 – 2021), Security Engineer, Ozone Cyber Security, Kerala interacted with the III year CS (SSS) students on 07.08.2021. She shared her interview experience in ozone Cyber Security and Triemp companies. She insisted the students to complete all the assigned work within the duration. She encouraged the students to develop time management skills during the college days. Also she urged the students to learn new technologies in software field. Entirely the session was an eye opening session for the students.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

On 07.08.2021, Alumnus of Computer Science Department, Mr.A.K.Aakash (Batch: 2018–2021), Operations Executive, Infosys Ltd, Bangalore interacted with III year CS (SSS) students (Batch: 2019-2022), through Google Meet. He shared his experience which he had undergone during the interview process in Wipro, Infosys and Triemp. He insisted the students to be strong in any one of the programming languages. He encouraged the students to develop the leadership skills and Time Managements skills. Also he insisted the students to learn the aptitude and reasoning skills for clearing non-technical interview rounds during the recruitment process.

WEBINAR ON “JAVA AWT,SWING & DATABASE CONNECTIVITY”

The department of Computer Science(Security System Specialization) organized a webinar on “Java AWT,Swing and Database Connectivity” to the II B.Sc.CS(SSS) students for designing a GUI interface with Database connectivity using Java Language. The webinar was arranged through Google Meet on 06/08/2021 from 11.00AM to 12.30PM. This webinar was arranged for giving awareness on the latest technologies for “Java Programming”. The webinar was started with the welcome address by Mr.Jeyaram, II B.Sc. CS(SSS). The felicitation address was given by Mrs.J.Varalakshmi, Asst.Prof. of CS(SSS).

The Chief Guest Mr.Sabarinathan Muthu,Executive Manager,Gateway Software Solutions, Madurai demonstrated a live session on the importance of SWT in Java and the following:

  • Eclipse tool
  • Graphical user controls in SWT
  • How to Create a Login form
  • How to perform event handling for MouseClicks,MouseDoubleClick
  • How to make a database connection

 Finally vote of thanks was delivered by Ms.Bala Ganesh, II B.Sc. CS(SSS). The association members of TechnoFest,  Department of CS(SSS),Ms.Deepthi, II B.Sc-CS(SSS) and Ms.SivaSankari, II B.Sc-CS(SSS)  compeered the entire session. Totally 51 students attended the session and got benefitted. The students were given the feedback form to give their feedback about the session.
