Seminar on Managing Claims in Insurance Industry

The Department of Commerce (B&I) & MBA in Association with Career Counseling Cell of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science and Madurai Insurance Institute jointly organized a Seminar on “Managing Claims in Insurance Industry” on 12.10.2021 in Auditorium

The inaugural session started with a Prayer and lighting of Kuthuvizhakku. Dr. M. Subramanian, Head of the Department of MBA welcomed the gathering. Respected Principal – Dr. R. Sujatha delivered the inaugural address. Honourable President Dr. R. Lakshmipathy Sir delivered the presidential address and Shri. L. Chendurnathan, Chairman of Madurai Insurance Institute delivered the felicitation address.

In the technical session, the Most Valued Chief Guests – Shri.K. Muralidharan (Rtd. Deputy Manager – Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd.) and  Shri. K.B. Vijay Srinivas  (Rtd. General Manager & Director – United India Insurance Co. Ltd.) shared their experience on claims management in both life insurance and non-life insurance business. More than three hundred and ten participants were benefited through this seminar.

Learned Dean – Academics – Dr. S. Priya  delivered the Valedictory Address.

Mr. N.R. Kaushik – II. B.Com (B&I) proposed Vote of Thanks. The session was graced by the presence of Dignitaries from Madurai Insurance Institute. Seminar arrangements were done by Mrs. V. Padmavathy, HOD – B.Com (B&I) and Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep, Assistant Professor – MBA Programme.

The program ended with a National Anthem.

Course Committee Meeting 2021-22

The Department of Commerce (Hon’s) ACCA conducted a Course Committee Meeting on 11-10-2021 at 11.15 AM to get the students’ opinion and grievances, if any, regarding academics, before the Internal Test-I. In this meeting, II & III year students and three faculty members participated. The syllabus coverage and comprehension of each course were discussed. Students gave valuable feedback and were assured that their inconveniences will be taken care of and academic standards would be maintained through efficient teaching – learning process.

Course Committee Meeting

Dept of MC&HM conducted a Course Committee Meeting on 11.10.2021 at 3.15 p.m. for the students of II year and III year.

The following points were discussed in this meeting:

  1. To review the existing methodology of teaching and learning practices and suggest further improvements.
  2. Preparation of Internal Examination -II
  3. To review the status of department activities and to suggest for the enhancement of these activities.
  4. Status of the completion of the syllabus (course coverage).
  5. Value added courses
  6. Students Feedback and Suggestion

Career Counselling on Oil & Gas Industries

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety has organized a one day Career counseling program for 40 students of UG F&IS on 09/10/2021. G.K. Viswanath, DGM-HSE, Adani Gas (Indian Oil-Adani Gas JV-IOAGPL) & M.Manivannan,Assistant Manager-Safety CAPLIN STERILES LIMITED (Subsidiary of Caplin Point Laboratories Ltd) were the resource persons for the program. They shared their Industrial experience, the future of safety field and its job opportunities hydrocarbon & process industry, in India and abroad. They also gave assurance for the internship and placement assistance. They also gave useful suggestion and ideas to the B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) students for a bright future. At the end of the program an interactive session was arranged for the I, II, III Year UG FIS students & PG students who participated in the program. The students of F&IS and engineering graduates felt very happy for arranging such a useful Career guidance  program which helped them to build their Career for a bright future.

 

SLCS Samaaj seva – Extension Activity through “Radio Talk on Importance and Health Benefits of Food”

FAGAS an association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai as a part of its extension activity recorded and aired programme on the theme of “Our actions are our future- Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life” through SLCS’s Community Radio Shyamalavani on 09.10.2021 at 12.30 pm.  Totally two students from II B.Sc FSPM gave an enthusiastic talk on the importance and history of world food day. This programme would be beneficial for all the persons to know about the consumption of healthy foods in our day today life.

WORKSHOP ON “ENGLISH FLUENCY ESSENTIALS”

The department of English and Curriculum Development Cell of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai along with Capshine English Training Academy organized an online workshop on ENGLISH FLUENCY ESSENTIALS via ZOOM platform on 7/10/2021. Capshine is India’s leading & trusted online English learning platform. A fully online and mobile-friendly learning incorporate live instructions, talk sessions, self-learning content, practice classes, webinars & loads of tech tools to use.

The workshop was held between 2:45 p.m and 4:00 p.m. fifty students from the second year of various under graduation streams attended the programme. Dr.Priya, Dean / Academics welcomed the resource person and the participants and the faculty members of the Department of English made their immense presence for the smooth conduct of the programme. The Resource person Mr.Arun Thatchari, Vice President – Corporate Development of Sulekha (Capshine Project) addressed the students. The resource person interacted with the students regarding the importance of English language and briefed the details of online learning app for improving one’s fluency level in English language. Then, the students were divided into many groups and each group was handled by a specific coach and the students were trained to introduce themselves in English and the success of the workshop lies in enabling all the participants to introduce themselves and the students were interested to learn via virtual classroom.  Feedback form was collected from all the participants through Google form. The workshop really helped the students in getting oriented with their Course General English III and CRT Practical I. The entire workshop was coordinated by the department faculty members. Totally 50 students and four faculty members attended the workshop.

Heritage Walk

The program “Heritage Walk” by Dhan Foundation Mr Bharathi was organised by the “Lakshya” Department Association of MBA Program on 07th Oct 2021, at 7.30 am in Perumal Malai, Near Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The event was organised to facilitate the learning and comprehending various aspects of ‘Ancient Heritage and Trade Links to Madurai’. 65 MBA students benefited out of this event.

Career Counselling on TANCET Exam preparation for pursuing MBA

Ms. V. Vanadhi (19004), a notable alumnus of BBA 2018 – 2021 batch and who is currently pursuing MBA (Higher Studies) in RL Institute of Management Studies, had an interaction on the topic of “TANCET Exam Preparation for pursuing MBA” on 06.10.2021. She shared her experience with the students of III BBA regarding methods of preparation for TANCET examination. Students had a wonderful experience of listening to her speech. 47 students of III BBA were benefited by this interaction programme

Career opportunities in Shipping Industry

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Alumni Interaction for the second year (30 students) on 5.10.2021. Mr. Sarandass.N , an alumni of the department, is presently working as Chief Cook, Fleet shipping Management, Mumbai. He created awareness among the students about the “Career opportunities in Shipping Industry”. He spoke about the duties and responsibilities of a General Steward, Importance of hygiene, Safety measure, Selection Process and the Documents required for joining the Shipping Company. This programme boosted the confidence of the students.

Corporate Expectations from Management Graduates

The webinar “Corporate Expectations from Management Graduates” was organised by the “Lakshya” Department Association of MBA Program on 05th Oct 2021 at 06.30 pm through Google Meet (YouTube Live). The key note speaker for the event was Mr Bruno Rocha, Chief  Finance Officer, TCS, Brazil. The event was organised to facilitate the learning and comprehending various aspects of corporate expectations from Management Graduates. 60 MBA students benefited out of this event.
