NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER DAY

The Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) celebrated National and International Consumer Day on March 15, 2024, with a series of informative discussions aimed at promoting consumer rights and raising awareness. The event was designed to educate both students and the public on the importance of consumer protection in today’s complex market environment.

The event began with a warm welcome from Mrs. V. Padmavathy, Head of the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance). Her opening address set a positive tone for the day, emphasizing the importance of consumer awareness in the globalized world. She highlighted the significance of understanding consumer rights and responsibilities, underlining that this event was a crucial step toward educating the future leaders of the business world on these essential issues.

The highlight of the event was a detailed presentation by Mr. S.V. Srihari, a second-year student from the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) program. His presentation, titled “Consumer Awareness Program”, addressed the current challenges and opportunities surrounding consumer rights. He elaborated on the fundamental rights every consumer is entitled to, such as the right to safety; the right to be informed; the right to choose; and the right to be heard. He provided an overview of consumer protection laws in India, including the Consumer Protection Act of 2019, which has strengthened consumer rights and enforcement mechanisms. Additionally, the presentation highlighted how various countries approach consumer rights, focusing on global initiatives and the role of international organizations in advocating for consumers.

The event also featured a Consumer Awareness Mime Program, a performance from the second year students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sulochana from I B.Com (B&I).
