      “Film Feast” an award ceremony for creators was conducted by the department of Visual Communication on Feb26,2018. Principal Dr. P.Sarvanan inaugurated the event. Mr. Venky Al, CEO, Radaan Media Networks was the chief Guest for the program. Student’s projects A News Bulletin , Ad films Pradan Manthiri Suraksha BheemaYojana & Save Trees, TV programs Namma Court & Anne Ennathu, Short Films Suzhal, Karam, Chill Out, VeeraVanakkam, , KadavulinThiraikathai and  Neer Thuli, A video album the Broken Wings were screened.

     P.Jayamurugan of M.Sc.I Viscom received the Best Non- Fiction award for his News feature Stem Cells, S.Sruthi of M.Sc. II  Viscom received the BesFiction award for her short film Kadavulin Thiraikathai, M.Preetha of B.Sc. FTVP III year won the Best TV program award for her program Namma Court and N.Mahananthan of B.Sc. FTVP II year won the Special Jury award for his short film Veera Vanakkam. Faculty members and Students of all departments were participated and appreciated the student’s works.

  “Creative Zone” a State Level Inter Collegiate Creative Competition was conducted by the Department of Visual Communication on Feb16, 2018. Nearly 160 students from twenty colleges have been participated in various parts of Tamilnadu. Principal Dr. P.Sarvanan inaugurated the event. Short film, Photography, Creative Writing, Radio Jockey, Art and Graphic Design competitions were conducted. The cash prizes were awarded for each competition. AVC College, Mayiladuthurai won the overall championship

The Students of Visual Communication won the Overall Championship in “Spectrum 2018” A State level Media Literacy inter College Competition organized by Fatima College, Madurai.     S. Harish, student of B.Sc. FTVP II year won the First Prize in Short film Competition for his film titled “Karam”. V.Priyadharsini and N.Vijay students of M.Sc.Viscom I year won the Second Prize in Poster Making. J. K. Anubhav Krishana the student of M.Sc.Viscom I year won the Third Prize in Radio Jockey and Report Writing Competitions. M.Bhamini, the Student of B.Sc. FTVP II year won the third prize in Ad Film Production Competition. The Honorable President, Respected management Executive, Principal, HoD and Faculty members of the Department have appreciated the winners.

“Colour Grading” – Workshop

The Department of Visual Communication has organized a one day workshop on “Colour Grading”. Mr.Gowtham, Certified Trainer of Davinci Resolve software from Camixel technologies was invited as resource person for the program. The post production workflow of 4K Digital Film Making was explained the Students.  Colour correction technique for the characters and objects presence in the shots was explained.  Product specialist Mr. Sridhar, Professors, and the students of the department were presence in the workshop.

National Seminar on Recent Trends in Media

The Department of Visual Communication has organized a “National Seminar on Recent Trends in Media” on Monday, Dec18, 2017. This seminar highlighted the challenges and advantages in recent days in media. Dr.P.Saravanan principal, SLCS delivered the presidential addresses for the National seminar.

      Dr.K.Karnamaharajan Head-CFEMS, MKU and Mr.Danapal, Dy.Chief Manager & Metro Suboffice Head, Times of India, Madurai were chief guests for the seminar. Dr.Karnamaharajan stated that the development of media is so tremendous then ever so the students of media should get involved in the wide area of media research, and media students should have a sense of social responsibility.

Mr.Dhanapal spoke about various evolutions and technological developments in print media from 2000 to 2017.

The primary goal of the seminar is to promote research and development activities in the field of Media and communication. The seminar brought Academicians, and Research Scholars around the Nation to a common platform and had brainstorming sessions on the current trends and latest innovative research being carried out in the areas of Print and Visual Media

More than 50 scholars presented diverse papers and 200 students around the Nation participated in the National seminar. The proceedings of the seminar will be published which will bring out different valuable findings and conclusions in the broad field and also provide recommendation for further new arenas in research.

Mr.Raghu Kalidasan, Asst Professor gives welcome speech, Mr.C.Manikandan, Head of the Department, the staff members and M.Sc. final year students have organized this Seminar.

Student Achievement

    S.Harish,  Second year student of B.Sc Film and Television Production won the “Special” award in the “Passion League” a National level  Photography Competition , Bengaluru held on December 09, 2017.

EXTENSION ACTIVITY

The Department of Visual Communication has given Media Support to the “Charity Film Festival & Short Film Competition” a fund raising program for the medical treatment of Cancer Children Organized by  the Meenakshi mission Hospital, Madurai on  03,04 & 05th  November 2017. Our department students have videographed and photographed the entire event. Multicamera technique was used for both video and photo Coverage Rs.30,000 worth of work has done by the department as service.

Students Achievements

Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, Madurai had conducted a Charity Film Festival and Short film Competition on 3 , 4 and 5th  November 2017 at Madurai Medical College Auditorium with over 700 students in attendance.

Nearly 150 short films from various colleges in the State had nominated for the short film competition.

K.Subasree,  the  final year student of  Visual Communication  won the ‘Best Content Award’ for her short film titled “Cuckoo”.

J.K.Anubhav Krishna,  M.Sc first year student of  Visual Communication  won two awards namely  ‘Special Jury Award’  and  “Best Child Artist Award” for his short film titled “Yellow Rose”.

R.Shanmugapriyan,  M.Sc  final year student of  Visual Communication  won the ‘Best Documentary film Award’ for his Documentary titled “Keeladi”.

Out Reach Program – 11th& 13th October 2017

The department of  Viscom has arranged a screening program at “ Thiruparankundram Panchayat Union Elementary School, Valayankulam,Madurai” on Wednesday, Oct 11,2017. In this program, the Television program “ Yoga for Children”, produced by K.S.Subasree and C.Ajithkumar, the final year students of B.Sc. Film and Television Production has been screened. The video contains the importance of yoga and its procedure to practice.

Nearly 100 students under age of 10 of the school and teachers were participated in the program. The students who participated in the screening session were taught yoga asanas by the department of Film and Television Production final year students M.Subash, R.Priyadharshini and faculty member Mr.Ramesh was the coordinator. The school children eagerly participated and performed the yoga.

 The copy of the yoga video was handover to the Headmaster of the School.

Career counseling – PG

Department of Visual communication conducted a Career counseling session on 08/09/2017, for the 2nd  year M.Sc Viscom.

Mr. C. Manikandan was the mentor of 2rd year Viscom students. He counseled the students about career opportunities in current media industry.

Totally 08 students participated in the event. The staff who took the workshop were immensely experienced and professional. The interactions made sure that there was no low point in the session. It gave everyone a clear perspective for the long run. All the factors affecting the choice of the students were addressed and the myths and superstitions regarding the choices were removed to a large extent. They showed presentations and various forms which were and organized and broken down into particular streams. It was very informative and interactive and even quite fun. They quite well managed to persuade the parents to attend their sessions being conducted separately too.
