On August 4th, 2023, the Department of Computer Science at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College organized a comprehensive “Cyber Security” orientation program for the 12th-grade students of KRS CBSE School. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of online security in today’s digital age.
At the event, Assistant Professor S. Krishnaprasad from SLCS College led the session, accompanied by knowledgeable students R. Ganesa Subramaniam, K. Karuppusamy, and Saran. They all joined forces to educate the young audience about the potential threats of malware programs on the internet, the intricacies of online transactions, and the risks associated with certain mobile phone apps.
The speakers emphasized the critical need for students to exercise caution when dealing with online platforms that might attempt to compromise their personal information. Through engaging explanations and relatable examples, they shed light on the methods used by cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data.
The highlight of the program was the interactive Q&A session where the students had the chance to clarify their doubts. Enthusiastic participation from both the speakers and the students created a dynamic learning environment, allowing for a fruitful exchange of knowledge.
By the end of the orientation program, the students left with a better understanding of the cyber threats that exist in the digital realm and the practical steps they can take to safeguard themselves. The event served as a valuable reminder that in an increasingly interconnected world, staying informed about cyber security is not just important – it’s essential.
