The Department of Commerce organized to a one day trip to Dinamalar Paper factory, for the First year B.Com (B&I) and B.Com (Honours) students. After visit the students got awareness about printing processes and news printing technology, they also learnt about the ink used in newspapers. They were also explained about the software used in printing. They were accompanied by four faculty members Ms.B.Nagarathinam, Mr.R.Damotharan, Mr.Kumar, and Mrs.M.Gunasundari.

The Board of Studies meeting for the academic year 2018 – 2019 Even Semester for B.Com (B & I) was held on 22-12-2018 at 3.00 pm, in Board Room. In this resolutions were made to change the examination mode for Environmental studies in II semester from descriptive mode to online mode and revision were made in Indirect tax in VI semester. These changes will come into effect from the 2018-19 even semester onwards.

As a premier institution of Madurai, SLCS continued to enjoy immense confidence of the recruiters for placement for the batch of 2016-2019. Initially the City Union Bank conducted the campus recruitment drive for the third year students of Commerce Department in our college campus on 05.12.2018.Four panel members from the City Union Bank, Head Office, Kumbakkonam interviewed around 16 students .The recruitment drive consists of descriptive test, On-line aptitude test and personal interview. Each and every student performed well. The recruiters felt happy and also were satisfied about the performance of the students. The Department felt really happy that all the students participated with confidence and enthusiasm.

                     Department of Commerce organized a Career counseling on Insurance Opportunities to B.Com graduates, Mr.Seenivasan, Secretary, Madurai Institute of Insurance, explained the placement opportunities available to B.Com graduates an motivated them to clear licentiate examination, which would help them to get more job opportunities in insurance Industry.48 students, participated and got benefited.

Department of Commerce organized a Guest Lecture on Practice of Life Insurance, to II and III B.Com (B&I) students. Mr.Arumgam, Executive committee member, Madurai Institute of Insurance delivered the lecture on Practice of Life Insurance and Mr.Seenivasan, Secretary, Madurai Institute of Insurance, explained how the students must approach Licentiate Examination. Around 80 students participated and got benefited.

Department of Commerce organized a Guest Lecture on Practice of Life Insurance on 24.11.2018, to II  B.Com (B&I) students. Mr.Arumgam,  Executive committee member, Madurai Institute of Insurance delivered the lecture on Practice of Life Insurance and Mr.Seenivasan, Secretary, Madurai Institute of Insurance, explained how the students must approach Licentiate Examination. Around 65 students participated and got benefited.

Department of Commerce B.Com Banking & Insurance conducted a Career guidance program to the III Year students on 08.11.2018.  Mr.Vijayavel alumnus (2013-15 batch) of B.com Banking & Insurance shared his experience in preparing for Diploma in banking and finance (DBF) examination. He explained how to face the exam and some simple methodologies to prepare for the exam. It was very useful to the III B.Com (B&I) students who are preparing for DBF exam. Around 48 students participated and got benefited.

Orientation Programme B.Com Students was organized by the Department of Commerce on 08.11.2018. Mrs. V. Padmavathy – The Head of The Department gave a detailed explanation about even semester curriculum and its credit to the students of B.Com (B&I) in the Seminar Hall. And for I B.Com Honours Dr.K.Archunan, Vice Principal, SLCS gave a detailed explanation about even semester syllabus and subject credits in their Class room. Dr.S.Gurupriya, Ms.B.Shanmugapriya, B.Nagarathinam and R.Damotharan – Asst. Professors conducted the Ice Breaking Session.
