Career Opportunities in banking sector

The Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) organized career counseling program for III B.Com B&I students on 24.07.2021 Mr.V.Vijavel, Deputy Manager, IndusInd bank and also our alumni, interacted with our students and informed our students the opportunities that are available in banking sector. Further he explained how to prepare for the bank exams. He also insisted on the significance of Diploma in Banking and Finance (DBF) exam, which we offer as value added course to our students. The session was interactive and 65 students got benefited through this program.

The Department of B.Com (B&I) organized a career counseling programme on “Diploma in Banking and Finance – Examination” on May, 26.05.2021. Mr.B.V.Eswaran  – Retired Bank Manager conducted an interactive session with students regarding the significance of clearing DBF examination and the ways and means to clear the examination.62 students of III B.Com B&I actively participated.

Women Empowerment Cell

Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy college of Science, celebrated the birthday of “Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi”. Dr. M. Tharani, Coordinator of WEC welcomed the gathering. Dr.B. Ramamoorty, the Principal along with Dr.R. L. Ramnath, NAAC Advisor felicitated the celebration. Students enthusiastically delivered speeches and verses about the legendry poet. A debate was conducted on “Pudhumai Pengal” and students energetically voiced their views on women’s position from ancient times till today.

Awareness on Banking Schemes

Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) organized a lecture on “Awareness on Banking Schemes” for the non-teaching staff of SLCS. Mr.Veerasamy, Senior Associate, CUB delivered the lecture. He explained the banking schemes with real life examples and interacted with the staff members. He also clarified their queries. 14 members participated and they felt that it was very useful for them.

Alumni interaction

The Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) organized an Interactive session with Mr.Ashwin Kumar, Alumni (Batch 2013-2016) for the I B.Com (B&I) students. He explained how to clear the DBF & Licentiate exams in a single attempt and stressed the importance of Value Added Courses in Placements. He also shared his experience as a Banker. Around 56 students participated in the session. The students were able to clarify their doubts and were  of the opinion that the session was greatly beneficial and confidence providing.

Board of Studies Meeting

The Board of Studies meeting for the academic year 2020 – 2021 Even Semester was held on 30-12-2020 at 2.00 pm, in F33 MBA Hall. In this meeting, modifications were made in the existing syllabi for 2018-2021 batch and 2019 – 2022 batch students. A new course, “Cultural Heritage” has been introduced for the 2020-2023 batch students. Similarly, minor changes were made in the other Syllabi. These changes will be followed from the forthcoming Academic Year. In Indirect Tax subject the 3rd and 5th units are changed as theory for
2018-2021 batch students and these changes will be followed in the current semester.

Placement drive

City Union Bank conducted a Campus Recruitment drive for the third year students of Commerce Department in our college campus on 12.12.2019. Six panel members from City Union Bank, Head Office, Kumbakkonam tested the potential of the students. Around 30 students participated in the recruitment. The selection process consisted of Descriptive test, On-line aptitude test and Personal interview. The recruiters were happy and satisfied with the performance of the students. Three students, Mr.V.S.Vijay Pravin, Mr.S.M.Prasenjith & Mr R..Bathrinath were selected as associates.

Alumni interaction

As part of academic enhancement, our alumnus Mr.S.Gokulnath (2017-20 batch, placed in Equitas Bank) interacted with the III Year students of B.Com B&I on 15.09.2020. He shared his interview experience with his juniors. He stressed on the importance of Communication and gave tips to clear competitive examinations. He, also, answered the queries posted by the students regarding the interview process. All the students of III B.Com (B&I) thanked him for sharing his experience.

Board of Studies Meeting

The B.Com (Banking and Insurance) Board of Studies meeting for the academic year 2020-21 Odd Semester was held on 27.08.2020 at 02.30 pm in the Board Room. The first semester syllabus was framed on the basis of Outcome Based Education (OBE) for the 2020-23 batch students. The syllabus was discussed with the experts and finalised. Syllabus updations were also made for the students belonging to the batch of 2019-22.
