WORLD HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATION

                   The Department of Commerce (Honours) organised the “WORLD HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATION” at Keeladi, Sivagangai on 18.04.2023 (Tuesday). During the programme, students were exposed to the residues of archaeological department. They acquired knowledge on importance of preserving our Heritage sites and also enriched their knowledge on contribution of heritage places to country’s economy and trade. The Excavation at Keeladi, have thrown up ample evidence of an urban civilization. They explored the signs of ancient culture trade and civilization. Totally, 31 students and 1 faculty participated in the program and got benefitted.

SEMINAR ON PROFESSIONAL ETHICS IN AUDITING

The Department of Commerce (Honours) organized a 2 days seminar on “Professional Ethics in Auditing” on 23.02.2023 and 24.02.2023. Practicing Cost Auditors CMA.S.Dhanasekar and CMA.M. Anandakumar addressed the session. They gave real time exposure on auditing practices. They inculcated the participants with the knowledge of latest industry’s auditing practices, ethical issues, proven techniques and trending issues through case studies and real time experience.

Totally, 48 students had participated in the session and at the end of the session they got aware of professional ethics its significance and consequences in the field of auditing. The session made them to realize the need of ethical auditing practice in a company.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

      Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an alumni interaction session for the 2020-23 & 2021-24 batch students on 21.10.22.   Our alumni Ms. Amirthavarshini and Ms.Aparna (2019-22 Batch), who got placed in RRSK & Associates, Bangalore addressed the session. The session focused on current market expectation from fresh commerce graduates. They shared their start to end placement experience and work experience in RRSK & Associates. They also motivated the students by giving tips on preparing for interviews in Auditing firms. It was an interactive session among the students and the alumni. The students eagerly participated and gathered information from the alumni. Totally, 48 students participated in the session and got benefitted. The session ended up with a vote of thanks by the students.

SLCS-SAMAAJ SEVA – OUTREACH PROGRAME ON Environmental Awareness Programe at Alagar Malai, Madurai

                   The Pinnacle Association of Department of Commerce (Honours) conducted an SLCS – Samaaj Seva – Outreach programme for creating “Environmental Awareness” at Alagar Malai, Madurai on 10.10.2022 (Monday). During the programme, students were exposed to importance of wild life environment. They created an awareness on environmental activities among the commuters and visitors of the place and educated them how to evoke the necessity and responsibility of humans to respect, protect, and preserve the natural world from its anthropogenic (caused by humans) afflictions. Totally, 51 students participated in the event and got benefitted by this program.

Industrial visit to V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust, Thoothukudi

            Industrial visit is a vital part of the curriculum. It helps to bridge the gap between the classroom learning and the real world. The visit also provides first-hand knowledge on the organizational structures and modes of operation in V.O.Chidambaranar Port, Thoothukudi.

             The Pinnacle Association of Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organized an Industrial visit to V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Thoothukudi on 06.10.2022 (Thursday). The visit was organized to make students explore the day to day activities of the port and to explore the area of auditing in export and import business. The students got an opportunity to interact with international port authorities.

        Totally, 47 students and 2 faculty members participated in the event and got benefitted. The visit helped us with a distinct experience on the contribution of ports in Industrial development.

Pinnacle Association Inaguration Ceremony

Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organized the inauguration ceremony of our Department Association PINNACLE  on 15.09.2022 (Thursday). The existing members were discharged and new association members were selected through voting method in our department for the year 2022-2023.  Association panel members were designated with their roles and responsibilities, The program started with a power point presentation of previous year’s activities and the future vision of Pinnacle Association. The new members selected are as follows:

Vice President  –  Ramya V (II Honours)

Joint Secretary  –  Arun Vignesh S  (II Honours)

 

Totally, 79 students participated in the event and provided their valuable support in making the association move towards its objective.

Fresher’s Day Celebration 2022-23

Welcoming the guest or new people’, is our traditional cultural practice which is applicable to everyone. In this sense we welcomed the new students by conducting fresher’s day to build a good relationship and harmony with the existing students. Hence seniors wished their juniors a good luck for their upcoming endeavors in various forms like singing, dancing, with motivational speeches, etc.

                 The “Pinnacle Association” of the Department of Commerce (Honours) organized a Fresher’s day celebration on 15.09.2022 (Thursday) to welcome the 2022-23 batch students. All the students were felicitated by our Dean Academics, Dr. S. Priya by addressing the students with her motivational speech. The session was flared by games and activities conducted by the seniors to the juniors such as connection, finding songs etc. to build a good rapport among the students.

Totally, 79 students participated in the event and got benefitted.

Mathematical Techniques for Competitive Exams

                 The “Pinnacle Association” of the Department of Commerce (Honours) organized a Workshop on “Mathematical Techniques for Competitive Exams” on 08.09.2022 (Thursday).  Mr. M. Rajapandian (M.sc, B.Ed.,), Statistical Inspector, Government of Tamil Nadu, addressed the session. He gave real time exposure on mathematical techniques applied in various competitive exams. He inculcated the need and applicability of Mathematics in various streams of education and its contribution in developing the skill set of the students to get employed.

     Totally 94 students had participated in the session and at the end of the session they got a clear idea about the various techniques and tricks. The session made them to realise the need of Mathematics in this competitive world.

 

 

ALUMNI INTERACTION

     Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an alumni interaction session for the 2020-23 batch students on 09.08.22. Our alumni Ms. R.Krithiga  and Ms.R.Haritha  (2019-22 Batch), who are pursuing their higher studies addressed the session. The session focused on post graduate program selection and professional course preparations (CA intermediate level). It was an interactive session among the students and the alumni. The students eagerly participated and gathered information from the alumni. Totally, 24 students participated in the session and got benefitted. The session ended up with a vote of thanks by the students.

CA Foundation & Intermediate Exam Refresher Course

             The Departments of Commerce (Honours) designed a Value Added Course on “CA Foundation Exam Training” for students of II Year B.Com (Honours) who are willing to appear ICAI CA Foundation exam on June 2022 from 01.05.2022 to 31.05.2022. With an efficient team of Eminent Faculty Members like CMA Gunaseelan, Mr. A Rajaseelan, training was conducted for the students.

             This course is intended to provide basic and clear knowledge in the subjects like Principles and practices of accounting, Business law and business correspondence and reporting, Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning & Statistics, Business Economics, and Business and Commercial Knowledge. As a part of this training Model Exams for CA Foundation conducted frequently and analysis about the students’ performance also made to make clear about the students level of performance. Totally, 12 students got registered in the course and completed the course successfully.
