NATIONAL YOUTH DAY / YUWA DIVAS 2022

The Students Forum, Students Corner Club in association with NSS celebrated the NATIONAL YOUTH DAY / YUWA DIVAS 2022 on 12th January, 2022 and organized a Quiz Competition on life of Swamiji Vivekananda. Students enthusiastically participated in the quiz competition and gained lots of insight. The responses were scrutinised by Dr.S.Priya,  Dean-Academics and Ms.T.Shunmuga Priya, Coordinator, Students Forum. Totally 25 questions were shared in a google form and 284 responses were collected from students and faculty members. The quiz enlightened the students to honour the ideals and thoughts of Swamiji Vivekananda who had tremendous faith in youth. Students learnt moral and ethical values through this quiz. Totally 284 students benefited by attending this online quiz.E-Certificates were issued to the students.

Webinar on “Professional Values and Ethics in the Food Service Industry”

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a Webinar on “Professional Values and Ethics in the Food Service Industry” for first and second year students (71 students) on 11.1.2022. Mr.G.Nanthakumar, alumnus of MCHM (batch 2001 to 2004) presently working as General Manager, Thapovan Resort, Kodaikanal, has been invited as the resource person. In his speech, he created awareness among the students about the “Professional Values and Ethics in the Food Service Industry” and he insisted on the aim of Food Service Industry is to increase profit and secure employment and the scope of ethics in the food industry in relation to food safety.

    Furthermore, he briefly elaborated the ethics and principles such as Employee Relations, Food Safety, Supplier Standards, Public Health Issues, and Consumers worried about new technologies. He added that food production is more complex than any other process and several ethical issues are raised in relation to agricultural practices and the food supply chain. Lastly, the pre-cautionary principle and framework for ethical decision-making in the food industry are highlighted for the business owner level and on the frontline.

       This program helped the students to understand the professional values and ethics in the Food Service Industry. Besides, it gave a good exposure for all the participants.

Health and Nutrition club – World Vegan Day Celebration

To commemorate “World Vegan Day”, Department of Food Science and Processing Management and Health & Nutrition Club jointly organized an Online Quiz Contest on the theme “Future Normal” for the students on 1.11.2022 through Google forms-(https://forms.gle/qc1jrT93yAMR1vfE7). This activity is conducted to create awareness, highlight the benefits of veganism for animals, humans and the environment.  Totally, 335 members participated and got benefited through this program.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Extension Activity-“Share the Meal” -Donate Food to the street people

Extension Activity aims to enable the students to develop social responsibility by doing social service to the rural community people. In this reason regard, The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an extension activity titled “Share the Meal”Donate Food to the street people at Alagar Kovil Temple, Madurai. 12 students from II and I year have taken part in the programme. They have prepared and distributed variety rice (around 100 packets of food to the street people). They have also distributed face masks to the people of nearby places in Alagar Kovil, Madurai on 10.1.22. Students were immensely satisfied after witnessing the smile on the faces of the homeless people on receiving the food packets.

AWARENESS ON USAGE OF MASKS & SANITIZERS

On 08.01.2022, the department of Languages, Mathematics and Physical Education of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science along with the support of Madurai Corporation Avaniyapuram Police Check post, Mandela Nagar organized SLCS Samaaj Seva – an extension activity to create awareness on the usage of masks and sanitizers among the public due to the fast spread of COVID-19. Totally 7 students and 5 faculty members were involved in distributing the masks and sanitizers to the public in the nearby shops, bus commuters and in the petrol bunk.

Export Summit – 2022

Students from ZEAL, an Association of BBA Department, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai attended an “Export Summit – 2022” on 08.01.2022 along with their faculty members. The summit was organized by Export Promotion Centre, Madurai run by Tamilnadu Chamber Foundation. Totally 28 students from II year BBA, 10 students from I BBA and 2 faculty members participated and got benefited through the summit. The participants got the opportunity of listening to some outstanding, interesting and informative seminar from the experts in the field of logistics and shipping management. The participants also listened to some panel discussions chaired by experts.

 

INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT SAMANAR HILLS AND DINAMALAR

Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Industrial Visit to the Dinamalar daily newspaper printing unit and Office on 07th January 2022. The day was begun with trekking to Samanar hills at Kilakuyilkudi, Madurai. The most famous Madurai writer Chithirai Veethikaran alias Mr. Kumar gave his valuable speech about Samanar hills by throwing lights on the historical background of Samanar hills, its ancient trade routes and its traditional link with old Madurai societies. Then the students were taken to the printing unit of Dinamalar at Kappalur, Madurai and the program came to an end at the Dinamalar Office at DSP Nagar, By-pass Road, Madurai. This industrial visit helped the students to understand the process involved in editing the news, its process to final printing form. Our students were aware of the newspaper production and the importance of news reading. 26 students of our I, II and III year ACCA visited these places.

Singing Competition for Pongal Celebration – 2022

Solo Singing Competition was organized by the department of MBA and Commerce (Honours) ACCA as a part of Pongal Celebration on 07.01.2022 at F32 of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai.  16 students from various departments took part in the competition. Welcome address was given by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Asst. Prof. & Head (i/c.,) of Commerce (Honours) ACCA. The event was started with a beautiful song “Sri Chakkara Raja Rajeswari….(Lalithambigai Song)” by the Judge Mrs. G.Lavanya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science. Then, the participants sang various Tamil songs such as “Tamizhukum Amuthendru Per, Madu Meikum Kanne, Prapo Ganapathy, Puthu Vellai Mazhai, etc.,” based on the theme தமிழர் பண்பாடு. At the end the judge announced the name list of the winners of this singing competition. The first prize was awarded to Ms. C.Aarthy of II Year MBA, the second prize was awarded to Ms. D.U.Janani of II Year FSPM and the Third prize was awarded to Ms. S.Madhu Bala of II Year Animation. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. S.Pugalanthi, Associate Professor, MBA.

 

SLCS Samaaj seva – EXTENSION ACTIVITY “PROPEL” – 2021

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an Extension Activity “PROPEL” on 07.01.2022 at Froebel Fredrick Vidya Matric School, Aviyur, Virudunagar.  During the session we created Professional Career Awareness among the higher secondary students. Our students have shared the information related to various professional exam opportunities, eligibility criteria and examination dates of various competitive exams. The session was designed and handled by our III year students under the guidance of the Head of the Department. Totally 35 students and 3 faculty members participated in the session. The program ended with a  Q & A session which was handled by our students.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA-AWARNESS ON COVID-19

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety & Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA at Froebel Matric Hr. Sec. School, Aviyur on 07/01/2022. Our Department HOD and two faculty members along with I, II&III year students (21 Nos) have conducted the activity. They delivered the Awareness speech on Covid-19 Pandemic and especially for principle of epidemic & toxicology. The students were also explained about the various procedures for disease identification such as case control, prospective coherent & retrospective coherent study. Totally 46 students of the Froebel Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Aviyur actively interacted with the faculty members and got the clarifications regarding the fear during the pandemic. The program was successful in creating the awareness to the students and staff members.
