SEMINAR ON INTERNATIONAL MOTHERS’ LANGUAGE DAY

Department of Tamil, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science commemorated the International Mothers’ Language day through a seminar on 21.02.2022. Mr. A. Vinoth, Member, National Committee for Minorities Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India and Dr. M. G. Sethuraman, Professor, Department of Chemistry, The Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, were the Chief Guests for the celebration. Mrs. N. Selvi, Assistant Professor of Tamil, delivered the welcome address.  Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal presided the presidential address. Dr. K. Archunan, Vice Principal and Dr. S. Priya, Dean-Academics, delivered the felicitation address. Mrs. R. Suganthi Hepzibha, Assistant Coordinator (IQAC) cum Assistant Professor of English, introduced the Chief Guest. The Chief Guests insisted the importance of National & Spiritual devotion. The students were also motivated by the Guests to speak the mother language without the impact of the foreign language. Mrs. H. Geetha, Assistant Professor of Tamil, proposed the vote of thanks. Students dedicated various language songs such as, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Hindi. Totally, 274 students participated and enjoyed the session.

SLCS- Smaaj Seva – an Extension Activity on “International Mother Language Day – “Ancient Tamil Food Habits”

The International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on February 21st to raise the awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as to promote multilingualism. On the occasion of this celebration, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an “Ancient Tamil Food Habits” on 21.2.22 to create awareness among the Nedumadurai school students as a part of an extension activity 5 faculty members and 10 students from the second MC&HM actively participated in it. They educated the school students on Tamil literature linked with ancient cooking methods, traditional spices and herbs used in traditional food which are simple, tasty, and inherently nutritious. They shared the knowledge about the benefits of ethnic foods and its importance of eating such foods among the present generation through this extension activity.

Report on “ Management Day Celebration “

 “Management day” was organised by the “Lakshya” the Department Association of MBA Program on 21st Feb 2022, from 2.15pm to 3.15 pm through Google Meet in F-32 hall. The event was organised to make them learn about Business analytics. Mr. Ananthapalli Gowtham Shankar – Certified Java Professional from WileyNXT- India (P) Ltd was the Guest Speaker of this program. Dr. S. Pugalanthi was the program Co-ordinator. Totally 31 I- MBA students got benefited out of this program.

 

DIGITAL LITERACY AWARENESS

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science association with “Pinnacle Association” conducted an SLCS – Samaaj Seva – Extension Activity on “Digital Literacy Awareness”, on 18/02/2022 (Friday) at the Government Middle School, Arittapatti village, Madurai. During the session, the students were given awareness on access to digital education and hands-on training was given on educational tools. Totally, 24 students participated in the event and 150 students got benefitted by the program. Our college students were appreciated by the Head Master of the school for their valuable contribution to educate their students.

Chhatrapati Sivaji Birthday Celebration

The TechnoFest Association and Department of Computer Science (SSS) jointly celebrated the birth day of Chhatrapati Sivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Kingdom on 18.02.2022 at the  Seminar Hall. The celebration started with the welcome address delivered by Ms.Sahithya of II B.Sc CS (SSS). Mrs.N.Anuradha, Head of the Department, delivered a speech to commemorate the life of Sivaji Maharaj. Mrs.S.Nirmala Devi, AP of CS delivered a felicitation address and insisted the importance of student’s participation in the association activities.

In order to celebrate  Chhatrapati Sivaji’s birth day, the department organized various competitions such as Elocution, Drawing and verse writing for the students of II B.Sc CS (SSS). Various non technical events were organized to the students of II B.Sc CS (SSS) and their details are given below. Finally the session ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms.Pooja shri of II B.Sc CS (SSS).

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “IDHAYAM”

FAGAS an association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial visit to Idhayam – Virudhunagar on 18/02/2022.  The students of I and II year FSPM( totally 26 students) and two faculty members participated in the visit. It was very useful and the students learnt about the processing steps involved in gingelly oil making. Mr.Sivamurugan Assistant HR explained history, industry development and technological aspect of oil seed processing and at the end of the session all the students interacted with Mr. Sivamurugan and got the doubts clarified. The visit was mainly focused to understanding  the practical knowledge involved during the processing.

Field trip – Keelakuyilkudi, Samanar Malai , Madurai

 On 17.2.22, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management went  on a field trip to Keelakuyilkudi,Samanar Malai, with the Second year students (28 students). There the students had the hands on experience of learning historical facts with fun and enjoyed in this field trip.    Samanar hills, Keelakuyilkudi village which is around 12 km away from Madurai, is a beautiful blend of nature with historical importance. Declared as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India, this hill is an interesting site to visit presenting a glimpse of historical importance of southern India. These hills are associated with the  Jainism having Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions depicting various facets of this religion. Also known as Samanar Malai as the Tamil word Malai means hills, it boasts of ancient caves with carvings dating back to 1st century A.D. Samanar hill has many prominent sculpture and ancient inscriptions giving an insight into the history and into the Jainism religion which flourished here during the ancient times. The inscriptions on the hills are said to be more than 200 years old. These caves were the homes of many Jain monks during  the ancient era.

Miniature Sculpting Workshop

The Department of Animation conducted an Workshop on “Paper anatomy models making” on 10.02.2022 and 17.02.2022 (Thursday and Thursday) In Drawing Hall. Mr. S. Praveen Kumar, Instructor, Dept. of Animation handled the “Miniature Sculpting” Workshop for the students. He thought a new and creative way to make 3D models with simple papers and tape, which leads them to make different fascinating characters .They, also learned how to make their own character with physic and balance. This led them to understand the balance of an object in real life and how to keep the same balance in models while making it in 3D software’s. The Students enjoyed the activity and ended productively.

Totally 23 students on 10.02.2022 and 13 students on 17.02.2022 were participated in this programme.

Swachh Bharat – Cleaning drive at Teppakulam, Madurai

ZEAL, an Association of BBA Department, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity “Cleaning drive at Teppakulam, Madurai” on 16.02.2022. 3 students from II BBA participated actively in the extension activity. This activity was organized as a part of the Swachh Bharat initiative promoted by the central government. This program was organized under the Samaaj Seva activity of our college. Students collected plastic waste in the surrounding areas.The students also exhibited some of their learning in the Environmental Studies Course which was taught to them in their I Semester.
