The Medius Coronet Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies organised an “film screening” session of the short film “kavi” on 30.08.2025 from 12.40 PM to 1.30 PM for the students of First and Second year of B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film production Specialization) and Final year students of B.Sc. Visual Communication (Film and Television Production Specialization) at Animation Academic Lab – 2 (S47).
The short film is about the story of a young boy who attempts to escape from the brick kiln where he is forced to work as a bonded labor slave in India.Gregg Helvey, in 19 minutes of the running movie, vividly display Kavi’s desire to live like other kids, to hold a pen and play cricket on the field grounds with other children his age. His desires aren’t luxurious. They are basic human rights that every child, man and woman is entitled to. While his parents have given up on their dreams, in Kavi, there is a fire burning in his heart. He wants to be free, to be alive.
The film taught the students the importance of fighting for fundamental rights and freedom, as seen in the protagonist kavi’s desire for education and play, and his journey to escape his bonded labor. It also encourages critical thinking about societal issues by showcasing how cultural differences and awareness can challenge dominant narratives of oppression.
