Desperate to fit in, he reinvents himself as “Rango,” a tough, fearless gunslinger. Through exaggerated storytelling and luck, he convinces the townspeople—and even himself—that he’s a hero. The town, suffering from a severe water shortage, appoints him as sheriff.
As Rango tries to live up to his own legend, he uncovers a conspiracy involving the town’s missing water, controlled by the powerful mayor, a tortoise named Mayor Tortoise John. Along the way, he befriends a desert iguana named Beans and faces dangerous outlaws.
Eventually, Rango is forced to confront the truth: he’s not the brave hero he pretends to be. After losing confidence and leaving town, he has a moment of self-discovery and realizes that being a hero isn’t about pretending—it’s about doing the right thing despite fear.
Rango’s desire for education and play, and his journey to escape his bonded labor. It also encourages critical thinking about societal issues by showcasing how cultural differences and awareness can challenge dominant narratives of oppression.
