SLCS- Smaaj Seva – an outreach Programme on “Trees on, Global Warming Gone-Rally”

The International forest day is celebrated every year on 21st of March and it is to create awareness among the rural people on the importance of forests in our life. On the occasion of this celebration, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a “Trees on Global Warming Gone”-Rally” on 21.3.22 to create awareness among the rural community  at Kombadi .Five faculty members and 48 students from the first and second year MC&HM actively participated in this program. The students carried out rallies accompanied by the community children, who seemed ever enthusiastic and shouted the slogans along with the students . The students carried posters and banners with slogans. Our campaign was successful in spreading awareness on save forests and the importance of forests in our lives and safety to the animals.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “CONSUMER AWARENESS ON FOOD SAFETY AND HEALTH”

To commemorate the World Consumer Rights Day the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized a seminar on “Consumer awareness on Food Safety and Health” on 21-03-2022 at 3.30 pm in the SLCS auditorium. The resource person of this seminar was Mr.M.N.Sundar ,the Organizing Secretary , Akhil Bharathiya Grahak Panchayat explained the food safety in relation to health and also enlightened the students about how to determine the adulterants used in food and avoid such  foods in future for the safety of the students’ health.  The session was interactive and the resource persons answered the participants’ queries. On behalf of the college, the Principal has received an award and a certificate from Akil Bharthiya Grahak Panchayat .Totally 132 students (26 students from FSPM ,18 students from MCHM, 27 students from BBA and 61 students from  B Com B&I got benefited through this webinar.

SLCS-SAMAAJ SEVA – OUTREACH PROGRAME ON EDVANTAGE A COMPUTER BASED EDUCATION

  The “Pinnacle Association” of The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an SLCS – Samaaj Seva – Outreach programme “EDvantage – A Computer Based Education”, on 21.03.2022 (Monday) at the Government Middle School, Kaluvanachery village, Viruthunagar dist. During the programme, students were exposed to various educational tools used in educational sector in the current Scenario. Totally, 15 students’ participated in the event and 120 students got benefitted by the program. The Head Master and teachers appreciated our students for their initiative of educating their students with new trend.

Workshop on “Novel usage on Natural Preservatives”

FAGAS, an association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management, organized a Workshop on “Novel usage on Natural Preservatives” at MCHM-Kitchen on 18.3.2022 at 1.30 pm. totally 23 students (12 II year) students and  (11 I year) students from our department  eagerly participated in this workshop. It was presented to the students, which includes theoretical and hands- on training program with manufacturing food products by using natural preservatives. Ms. M. Ragadeepa Assistant Professor, Dept Food and Dairy Technology, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, was the trainer, began the activity with an elaborate explanation of the natural preservatives and pros & cons of preservatives in Sherbat, Flavoured milk, Protein ball and Squash preparations.  At the end of the day the students gathered an appreciable level of practical knowledge about the preparation of novel foods as well as increase shelf life by using the natural preservatives with utmost satisfaction.

Computer Legend Birthday Celebration

On 18th March, 2022, the Technofest Association, Department of Computer Science (Security System Specialization) organized a Association Meeting in that Computer Legend birthday celebration celebrated. The I Year CS(SSS) and II Year CS(SSS) students have attended the Association meeting, Mrs. N. Anuradha, Head of the Department welcomed the gathering. Mrs.Priya, Dean Academics presided over the session through presidential address. The Chief guest, Mr.Harshan,Senior Campus Recruiter, Accenture started the session and share with his previous experiences of association meetings in his college days. Mr. Jeyaraman of II CS, welcomed the gathering. Mr.Naveen Kumar given the Introduction speech about the computer legend Mr.Eduardo Luiz Saverin. Students from I CS & II CS are written essays and drawings. Totally students participated in the Computer Legend birthday and got benefitted.  Finally vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Saravana Karthick of II CS(SSS).

Training Program on “Business English Certificate – Prelims” (CEFR Level – B1) 14th to 18th March, 2022

In an endeavor to mould the 1st-year MBA students numbering 65 into Industry-Ready from communication perspective, RL Institute of Management Studies in association with Voice Training and Research Pvt. Ltd, Madurai conducted a five-day Training Program on “Business English Certificate – Preliminary” from 14th to 18th of March 2022 on its campus. The curtain of the training program opened with the invocation of God, following which Mr. P. Selvam, Assistant Professor, RLIMS delivered the welcome address. He underlined the importance of possessing Business Communication Skills that plays a pivotal role in expressing oneself with assertiveness in the workplace.

Dr. M. Subramanian, Head of the Department, MBA prefaced his Keynote address with the maiden endeavor that RLIMS pursues in enabling the students to appear for the Business English Certificate Examination. He also reiterated that many organizations require BEC- Qualified candidates. ‘This batch must be fortunate enough to be offered with BEC-Prelims Training because this is the first kind of initiative our department undertakes ever since its inception,’ said Dr. S. Pugalanthi, Associate Professor, RLIMS in his special address.

Mrs. Gowri Solomon, Trainer at Voice Training and Research Pvt. Ltd, Madurai walked all the students about the nitty-gritty about the four tenets of the English Language such as “Listening, Speaking, Reding and Writing”. She precisely pointed out that acing this BEC-Preliminary Exam with merit will certainly stand all the students in good stead, not only during their career start but also throughout their career journey.

“This BEC certification is accepted and trusted by thousands of leading employers and organizations worldwide. It is a mark of excellence, opening doors and giving you the skills and confidence to thrive” the trainer said. She also spoke on the examination format and simple strategies that students must employ during the placement preparation period, to pass this examination at ease.

She further added that as many as 146 organizations including Higher Education Institutions in India are accepting this certification. Hence, the demand for BEC-qualified students has progressively increased of late.

The trainer provided the students with ample exercises to prepare them for the exam. She also conducted an assessment on the last day of the training to understand the learning ability of the students.

Report on Consumer Rights Day Celebration

The Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) organized the Consumer Rights day celebration  on 18th March, 2022  at  Room No :105.  Mr. Hariharan , II B.com (B&I) created awareness by  delivering  a special address on Consumer Rights and needs to the students of I B.Com ( B&I) and also he highlighted  different types of exploitation prevailing among the consumers.  Totally   80 students of  I B.Com (B & I)got benefitted by this program.

Extension Activity (SLCS- Samaaj Seva ) on “Nutritional and Dietary guidance for School going children”

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity (SLCS- Samaaj Seva) “Nutritional and Dietary guidance for School going children” at Panchayat Union Public School, Nedumadurai on 18.03.2022.   Twelve FSPM second-year students taught the value of dietary habits with relevance to Recommended Dietary Allowances to the school going children belonging to the age (11-13 years). To raise awareness, our students provided counselling on the importance of various dietary practises and nutrients intake to be followed.

Environmental Health and Safety club

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety and Environmental Health and Safety club conducted Annual Day Dance Competition at bus shed on 17.3.2022. We planned two categories of dance competition; solo dance and group dance. Totally 7 members participated in solo dance and 8 groups participated in group dance. Finally, 3 teams from group dance and 3 participants from solo dance were selected.  The competition served as a wonderful platform for the students to showcase their talents.
