The Medius Coronet Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies organised a “film screening” session of the movie ” Grave of the Fireflies” on 02.08.2025 from 12.40 PM to 1.30 PM for the students of First and Second year of B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film production Specialization) and Final year students of B.Sc. Visual Communication (Film and Television Production Specialization)

The movie “Grave of the Fireflies” is based on a true story from the author Akiyuki Nosaka’s own life, specifically his experiences as a child during the firebombing of Kobe in World War II.

The story, and the subsequent animated film, depict the struggle for survival of an older brother and his younger sister after their mother dies, culminating in the younger sister’s death from malnutrition.

Students learnt profound lessons about the senselessness of war, the devastating impact on innocent civilians, the resilience of the human spirit, and the critical importance of empathy and humility. Students also learnt about a lot of new techniques used in the movie.

Overall, the session was highly informative and encouraged attendees to learn a lot about various ways and techniques of Animation. Mr.S.Naveen Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Animation and Media Studies decode the movie and help the students to do analysis.
