The School of Animation and Media Studies, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science (Autonomous), Madurai, organized a seminar on “
“Fake Views: Spotting Manipulation & Upholding Values in News Production”; on 31st July 2026 at the Animation Lab for B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects & Film Production Specialization) and B.Sc. Animation (Game Design & Development Specialization) students. The seminar aimed to educate students about the importance of identifying fake news and promoting ethical values in news production.
The session was conducted by Mr. G. V. Ramesh Kumar, News Editor, Dinamalar, Madurai, who shared his professional knowledge and experience in journalism. He explained how fake news spreads through digital and social media platforms and highlighted the importance of verifying information
before believing or sharing it. The resource person introduced students to basic fact-checking methods, identifying reliable news sources, and recognizing manipulated content.
He also emphasized the role of ethics in journalism, stressing the importance of accuracy, fairness, accountability, and responsible reporting. The session encouraged students to think critically while consuming digital content and to apply ethical practices in media creation.
The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion, where students clarified their doubts regarding news verification and media ethics. A total of 70 B.Sc. Animation students actively participated in the programme. The seminar was highly informative and successfully enhanced students' awareness of media literacy, responsible journalism, and the importance of combating misinformation in today’s
digital world.
