VALUE ADDED COURSE ON IOSH FROM- 26/12/2022 TO 29/12/2022

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a Value Added Course on IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) for III F& IS. Mr. K. Senthil Nathan, HSE, Green World Group, acted as the trainer. He explained clearly the Risk Assessment and standards of IOSH. He also gave useful tips to the students for their career and higher education. At the end of the program, a mock interview was arranged for the final year students. The students of F& IS felt very happy for arranging such a course for their career enhancement.

Seminar on World Pollution Control day

            Herbert William Henrich Association, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, along with Environmental Health and Safety club, celebrated the World Pollution Control Day through an awareness program on 02.12.2022. Dr. N. Somasundaram, Principal, Rukmini Shanmugam Polytechnic College, Madurai, gave the guest lecture on World Pollution Control. He explained the theme of World Pollution Control Day for this year and the important methods of controlling the pollution. He highlighted pollution prevention should be a motive of an individual’s life and it should be encouraged in the society to segregate the waste from houses and other places and reduce the usage of plastic products to protect the Environment from the disposal of waste and other activities.  He emphasized that Resources should be used with care and economy.  Totally, 98 students and 5 faculty members got benefitted through the seminar.

Talent Exposure program

Department of Languages & Extra Curricular Cell organized a Talent Exposure program for students to show case their talent on 08.11.2022 at 11 a.m at our college premises. The objective of this event is to make the students understand the importance and contribution of exposing their talents and extra-curricular activities for the betterment of their future and celebrate young generation as a wealth that cannot be ceased. Totally, 24 students participated in the program. Students enjoyed a lot and made the day a memorable one.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA –OUTREACH ACTIVITY ON “EMERGENCY RESCUE AND FIRST AID”

         Herbert William Henrich Association of the Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an outreach activity on “EMERGENCY RESCUE AND FIRST AID” at Vellimalai Reserve Forest, near Dindigul, on 02/11/2022. Totally, 3 faculty members Mr.I.Vivek Ramkumar, HoD i/c & Mr.B.Satheeshprabu and Mr.R.Brameshwaran, Assistant professors along with 34 FIS Students (I year, II year, III year, P.G.Diploma) conducted the activity. They conducted an activity on emergency rescue and first aid. This initiative created awareness on taking necessary steps in emergency situations. The students gained knowledge on how to rescue and offer first aid. During this activity students planted samplings to save our environmental health.  The aim of this campaign is to spread the importance of safety measures during the emergency rescue periods. Finally, to test the fitness of the students, we all went to a trekking to sirumalai hills was organized.  Around 15 Peoples get benefitted from the activity.

AWARENESS ON FIRE CRACKERS & FIRST AID

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety & Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized an OUTREACH ACTIVITY on “AWARENESS ON FIRE CRACKERS AND FIRST AID” at KovilangulamVillage, Viruthunagar on 20/10/2022. Totally, III year students (8 Nos) and PG diploma students (5 Nos) along with Mr. R Brameshwaran, Assistant professor, FIS conducted the activity. They created awareness on safe handling of fire crackers and first aid, safer cracker holding techniques, basic first aids, etc. This activity created the awareness among the children to maintain their health and safety and to know about the precautions to be followed. The volunteers insisted the school students to follow the do’s and don’ts in handling crackers. During this activity students explained the causes and effects of the fire crackers among the children.

The aim of this campaign is to emphasize and highlight about the need of following the safety measures during the festival. The children rendered their cooperation & ensured us that they will follow the safety measures. Nearly, 60 children got benefited through this activity.

Seminar On Roles And Responsibilities Of Safety Officer

            Herbert William Henrich Association, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, conducted a seminar on “Roles and Responsibilities of Safety Officer” on 02.09.2022. The students of UG and PG Diploma participated in this program. Mr. Rabiq Ali, General Manager, Bunge India Limited, Trichy, gave the guest lecture on the topic. He explained the role of Safety Officer is crucial, as it entails protecting all members of the organization from risks, infections, accidents, injuries, etc. A safety professional who investigates the mishaps, accidents, near-misses also prevents similar occurrences in the future. A safety specialist would advice employees (whether new or experienced) to follow safety protocols and use PPE while working in factories to reduce the risk of injury. Furthermore, a safety expert would advice industries on waste management, as improperly treated chemical and biological waste from industries and the hazardous effects of it to people and the environment. Totally, 39 participants (34 students from F&IS Dept and 5 Faculty members) got benefitted through the seminar.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – AWARENESS ON TOMATO FLU

Hebert William Henrich Association of Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized SLCS SAMAAJSEVA – an extension activity on “AWARENESS ON TOMATO FLU” on 06/08/2022. A Student from II year FIS, A. Matheswaran, conducted the activity. He clarified to the public that Tomato flu is an infectious viral disease that occurs due to intestinal viruses and is commonly seen in children under the age of five and also it leads to blisters on several parts of the body, which are mainly red in colour. He also explained about the signs of Tomato flu such as Fever, painful sores in the mouth, a rash with blisters on hands, feet, and buttocks, tiredness, joint pain, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, high fever. He also illustrated few tips to tackle this infection like cold water bath, avoid spicy& salty food, avoid scratching the skin and have enough rest.

The aim of this campaign is to alert the public about Tomato flu and to advise hygiene and sanitization of the surroundings as the best preventive measure to avoid the Tomato Flu. Around 25 Peoples got benefitted from the activity.

 

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA –AWARENESS ON “EFFECTS OF TOBOCCO TO THE PUBLIC”

Herbert William Henrich Association of the Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an awareness program on “EFFECTS OF TOBOCCO TO THE PUBLIC” at Eliyarpathi on 28/07/2022. A Student from III year FIS, Mr. A. Rahul, conducted the activity. He created awareness on Harmful effects of Tobacco such as, premature death and long-term suffering. He also explained that it was a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, cancers and oral diseases.  This initiative created the knowledge to the public as to how it will affect humans.  The aim of this campaign is to spread the awareness regarding the harmful effects of tobacco among the users. Around 15 People get benefitted from the Activity.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA –AWARNESS ON FOOD HYGIENE

Hebert William Henrich Association of Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA– an extension activity program on “AWARNESS ON FOOD HYGINE” at Alangulam on 28/07/2022. A. Rahul, III B Sc FIS, conducted the activity. He clarified to the public that Food hygiene is the condition and measures necessary to ensure the safety of food from production to consumption. He also explained that lack of adequate food hygiene can lead to food borne diseases and even death of the consumer at times. He insisted the people that food handling is an important, easy, and cost-effective way to keep you, your family, and friends safe from possible deadly illness.

          This initiative created awareness to the public like, Wash their hands before cooking, after handling raw meats or eggs, after touching ones face/skin, or after handling garbage, cook food to the minimum safe internal temperature, prevent cross contamination by storing meat properly and by handling raw meat correctly. Around 10 People got benefitted from the activity.
